Safe toys for 3+ months baby?

Do you know of any safe plastic rattles, blocks, or toys especially when my baby wants to put everything in his mouth? With the lead and plastic scares these days I'm not sure what toys to get for my him.

Old fashion wood toys(make sure that the wood is not treated) are wonderful. They have some at IKEA. Or, if you can afford a bit more expensive, you can find had crafted baby toys on the internet or at a local wood shop.

With all the recalls at the moment and the lack of regulation, I wouldn't use anything other than wood. The biggest problem is that with a lot of these companies, the toys can come from anywhere (Different parts of the toys come from different countries. Some toys are made in Asia and others in Europe, etc.) Each country has their own regulations and China is famous for simply not caring. A lot of toys out there have yet to be recalled. I wouldn't risk it. I've read horrible things about children dying from something as simple as a bracelet charm (that contained lead).

Edit: As another poster mentioned, cloth toys can work well too. Just be careful about the dye and treatment to the fabrics.

Toys for baby at 3 1/2 months old?

Hi, my baby is now 3 1/2 months old and really doesnt have any interest in toys. He loves looking at the faces of stuffed toys and loves hearing the sound of rattles. But the interest stops there.

If he is playing on his playmat i put stacks of toys around him to help keep him entertained. But he is always looking to find me first....or the TV lol (thats probably the only other thing he likes - probably because of the bright colours).

He hasnt really found his hands as yet...and im now im just a little worried. All of my family are saying he should be interested in them by now. Is there any reason for me to feel like this? Or should i just chill out and go with the flow?
This is the problem...Everywhere i go to look for rattles they dont have anything small enough to fit into his hands. The ones i did find and bought i give to him. He will hold them, but he loves sucking on them lol. He wont actually play with them. His favourite accessory sitting near him is his pacifier. If he loses it, he tries to find it and put it back into his mouth. But of course he has no success lol. I do have a mobile that i have hanging over his rocker. He will touch it, but wont play with it. He just has no interest for them.

All babies develop at different paces. Some faster, some slower. As long as your baby seem normal at this stage, there is nothing to worry about.

You are his favorite toy! He loves to see your face, your smile, the sound of your voice and your touch. Have fun with your baby, babies grow up so fast :)

My daughter is three months old today! She's learning to sit and laugh, and can carry on long conversations in babbly baby talk. She's beginning to understand cause and effect; if she bats at a toy, it'll move and make noise. She also can recognize faces and people by now.

All of this to say that if you get her a toy that is bright, makes sounds, and has places to hold onto, she'll be happy. Better yet, if you have the money, you can get a play gym for her that has toys hanging above, and possibly a babyproof mirror. That's my daughter's favorite part of her gym- the mirror. Hers also has a piano at her feet so she can kick it and make music. She absolutely loves it. I got mine on Walmart's website for like $50, and it's worth every penny. Have fun shopping, and congrats on your new sibling!

Stimulating baby aged 3 months (without toys)?

I have spent the first three months of my granddaughter's life with her, in spite of living almost 2000 kms away. Grandpa visits us once or twice per month. Sadly, I have to return home soon - I am going to miss her tremendously.

I want to know from all the mommys and nans out there - what sort of educational stimulation can I give my baby? I started exercising her back and neck after two weeks, and we were all amazed at how strong she is. After a month I started with her legs and now she kicks very strongly. I have done the same with her arms (clapping) and she is in very good shape.

I would like to start some mental stimulation but have no idea where to start. Already, since age 2 weeks, I hanged a very colourful flower for her to look at. She loves it! She also has toys all around her to stare at, but I feel there must be more!!!

Please help, your answers will be very highly appreciated. Bless everyone with a baby, it is so rewarding. They are made to be cherished

When you walk around the house with her tell her everything that you are doing so that she can begin learning the names of things, you can also put a mirror in her crib which helps her learn observation skills. I bought a book called Games to Play with Babies. It is organized by month and tells you games to play and what the game teaches your baby. What are good toys for a 3-month-old?

Babies this age are becoming interested in toys. They do not need to be expensive or even store bought toys. When choosing toys, you need to be careful about what you allow your baby to play with. Do not buy anything that can fit inside of their mouth. Toy should not be made with anything that could break off or splinter. Never give your baby anything with sharp edges or corners. Make sure that older siblings understand that their toys may be dangerous for the baby.

highchair toys for a baby between 3-5 months old?

i have a deluxe recline & grow 5 stage feeding seat. and was planning on using it on thanksgiving for my baby who will be 3.5 months old. and i want to get her a good toy that will keep her occupied while we eat. any suggestions?
i want her to be able to sit at the table with everyone else. i have no problem holding her i just thought it would be nice for her to have something to do.

sassy has a toy that has a suction on the bottom and the thing on top (the actual toy) looks kinda like a ferris wheel, it spins and so do the little toys attached to it.

dylan has one, but he can pull it off now... could be i'm not suctioning it on right lol.. either way, it's a good one :) also.. blocks are fun and keep them occupied :)

my baby is 3 months old and he has no interest in toys yet?

he has a whole toy section with rattles, stuffed animals, teething rings, plastic mirrors, play mat, etc. he shows no interest in anything except the plastic mirror once in a while.. is this okay? he can roll over and hold stuff so i just don't get why.. he's also old enough too lift his shoulders and head. i think he might be teething as well. He's drooling a lot! and he just bites my fingers all the time and other stuff. opinions before i go see a doctor about anything?

Your baby is still too young. Babies do not always get interested in toys till about 4-5 months.

She could be teething, some babies start pretty early and some have itchy gums from an early age and that is why she may be chewing. Chilled wash cloths make great teethers and are super easy to clean. The chilled water filled teethers should be fine, but I would get rid of them once she gets teeth. They break super easy! Also my daughter loved chewing on a RAZ pacifier. They are the best teethers. She also really loved this vibrated strawberry thing that was made by infantino. She still uses it for her back teeth. Bright, colourful and tactile toys are good at this age. If your little one's teething, get some bright teethers, anything gummy. My 3 month old loves anything that dangles that he can bat at or grab, so if you haven't got a playmat/gym then that would be useful. Soft toys that can fit into his hand that can be put in baby's mouth without risk of choking are wonderful, and usually quite inexpensive because of their size. Babies have no need for huge stuffed animals at this point.

You can usually make a game out of household items at this age, without spending a fortune on toys. Things like bright plastic cups and mirrors, babies aren't looking at the brand label or price tag, they just love interesting looking things. I've bought so many toys and my son prefers to stare up at my sparkly lampshade most of the time!

My children are about 20 weeks old and they still love it. They always sat in it and looked, but they really couldn't play with the toys until they were about 15 weeks. It has been incredibly worth it. My friend has a 8 month old who still plays with thier gym - only now he can crawl around it on his own.

oh! small bottles (like small soda, plastic bottles).. have your boys go fill them with rocks and then seal them up.. then take all the plastic wrap off of them and have them decorate them with non toxic paint. makes a really pretty rattle!!

they could make her a little mobil for her crib out of paper cut outs.

you can get a big piece of cloth and get some of that paint made to use on cloth and they could make her a blanket that she can always keep.

maybe they could go build her an animal at build-a-bear. (but i think you can get a set at walmart [usually for girls to play with but in this case, i think its ok] and they can make a bear at home for her).

It really depends on what you are talking about. My daughter did not start grabbing at toys and stuff until somewhere between 4 and 5 months. However, it you mean not at all then this may be a problem. Newborns should be able to grasp your finger, if you place it in his or her palm and she doesn't even try to grasp it then I would definetly get things checked out. Keep in mind that even if she is delayed they won't start any kind of intervention unless she becomes at least 4 months or more behind. Babies all develop differently so unless she is 6 months old and can't hold a toy or roll over then i wouldn't get worried. They have to be significantly behind before you should worry.

How can I get my baby to stop sucking her thumb?

My baby is 3 months old and she always wants to suck her thumb. I've given her a pacifier and she spits it out to suck her thumb!! I know it's not a huge deal right now, but I dont want her to be doing this when she is 2-3 years old. Has anyone else had this problem?

If she wants to suck her thumb at that age, there isn't anything you can do to stop her. it's fine for children to suck their thumbs as long as it's not past age 4 (for dental reasons). You have to break the attachment to a pacifier as well, so there really is no advantage to trying to make her take one. At least with thumb sucking, you don't have get up in the middle of the night to replace it for her, she can do it herself. You can try to encourage her to get attached to a toy as she gets a little older and around age 3 or so, you can try a thumb guard to teach her not to suck anymore.

It really depends on what you are talking about. My daughter did not start grabbing at toys and stuff until somewhere between 4 and 5 months. However, it you mean not at all then this may be a problem. My son noticed his toys at about 10 weeks...and started batting & slapping at them (on his activity mat) at about 11-12 weeks. He hasn't yet been able to sit up on his own, nor is he able to hold onto a toy and play with it yet...but I suspect it will be soon.

Get some teething keys or gumming toys...your child might like those, since she is chewing on everything right now. BTW, this behavior is completely normal!

Right now your babies favorite toy will be you! Sing, tell rhymes and making faces should be very amusing for your baby. You will be able to gage by their reaction. My son smiles when I do all of those and also when I pretend to eat him and make nom nom nom noises, he giggles. But otherwise you sound like you are doing everything fun for him.

How does my baby compare to your baby at 3 months of age?

My baby is 3 months old and I thought he was on track in development until I went to a play group last week and saw a baby who was 3 1/2 months old who seemed leaps and bounds ahead of my baby. This is where my baby is at:

he weighs 13 pounds 4 ounces. He sleeps about 3-4 hours at night then I feed him and he'll sleep another 2-3 hours. He eats about 25-30 ounces a day, about 90% breastmilk (I pump) and the rest formula. He hates being on his stomach, just bobs his head and cries. He isn't even close to rolling over yet. He can hold his head fairly sturdy, but not total control. He can handle some weight on his legs if I hold him. He stares at hanging toys but doesn't reach for them. He can't hold a toy on his own. He has periods of about 20-30 minutes of happy awake times before he wants to sleep, he naps on and off all day.

How does this compare to your baby's development at 3 months?

Well, first of all, I know it's soooo tempting, but try not to compare your baby with anybody else's. Every baby develops at their own pace. When you take your baby in for his doctors visits, they can give you some average guidelines for development. If your baby falls way behind in development, your doc will let you know.

But, to answer your question, it sounds like your son is quite similar to how mine was at 3 months. He had NO interest in being on his tummy, would scream if left on it for more than a few seconds. He also still had bobble-head, and only stared at toys, never reached for them. His naps were on and off all day too, with 6 hours sleeping at night, feeding, and another 4 hours sleeping.

He is now 9 months old and still has not crawled! And he has only just cut his first tooth. We recently met a baby the same age as my son who is walking and has 8 teeth. It's hard, but just try to enjoy where your baby's at. My daughter is just days till she's 3 months old and her sleeping pattern has already changed. She's now awake during the morning and afternoon hours with 30 minute naps in between and she sleeps thru the night and now I don't really know what to do with her when she's awake other than carrying her and talking to her. What else is there to do and what toys do they play with at 3 months?

My son loved Baby Einstein dvds at 3 months and he loved activity mats that had toys hanging from them, also small hand toys are good like rattles and teethers and chimes and all those small toys on the toy aisle at walmart and babiesrus, anything they can really grip well is awesome!!

How does my baby compare to your baby at 3 months of age?

My baby is 3 months old and I thought he was on track in development until I went to a play group last week and saw a baby who was 3 1/2 months old who seemed leaps and bounds ahead of my baby. This is where my baby is at:

he weighs 13 pounds 4 ounces. He sleeps about 3-4 hours at night then I feed him and he'll sleep another 2-3 hours. He eats about 25-30 ounces a day, about 90% breastmilk (I pump) and the rest formula. He hates being on his stomach, just bobs his head and cries. He isn't even close to rolling over yet. He can hold his head fairly sturdy, but not total control. He can handle some weight on his legs if I hold him. He stares at hanging toys but doesn't reach for them. He can't hold a toy on his own. He has periods of about 20-30 minutes of happy awake times before he wants to sleep, he naps on and off all day.

How does this compare to your baby's development at 3 months?

Well, first of all, I know it's soooo tempting, but try not to compare your baby with anybody else's. Every baby develops at their own pace. When you take your baby in for his doctors visits, they can give you some average guidelines for development. If your baby falls way behind in development, your doc will let you know.

But, to answer your question, it sounds like your son is quite similar to how mine was at 3 months. He had NO interest in being on his tummy, would scream if left on it for more than a few seconds. He also still had bobble-head, and only stared at toys, never reached for them. His naps were on and off all day too, with 6 hours sleeping at night, feeding, and another 4 hours sleeping.

He is now 9 months old and still has not crawled! And he has only just cut his first tooth. We recently met a baby the same age as my son who is walking and has 8 teeth. It's hard, but just try to enjoy where your baby's at.
