I need 4 experiences (per age group) to develop fine motor skills + reasons for why each choice relates to the physical development of the following age groups

⢠Infants (not yet walking)
⢠Toddlers (staring to walk to three years)
⢠Preschoolers (three to five years)

Any help would be so appreciated - am doing an assignment and have drawn a total blank for this question.

Thanks in advance

Answer
Infants and Toddlers:
* tying colorful scarfs together and placing them into a clear plastic bottle (juice bottle). Then letting them pull out the scarves.
* dump and fill activities
* Peek a boo boards- where they have to pick up the foam flaps to see what it underneath.
* texture books-allowing them to turn the pages
* Float and Sink activity. Letting the child put the objects into and out of the water.
* Feely Boxes- decorate a box with different textured material. Place items inside that are of different textures. Let them reach in and take out the items.
* Sticking objects to (and taking objects off) contact paper that has been taped to a surface sticky side up.
* squeaky squeeze toys
* fingerplays
* squeeze sponges- having a little soap and colored water makes it great fun!
* sensory gloves- fill plastic gloves with various items (beans, oatmeal, etc) and let them squeeze them.
* Canister Shakers: Put paper clips, buttons, or other small objects inside potato chip cans or film canister. Tape or glue the lids on. When you make these with film canisters, even a very small baby can grasp and shake them.
* Slot Drop Can: Cut a 1 ½â slot in the lid of an empty coffee can. Replace the lid. Provide poker chips or very large buttons for children to push through the Slot Drop Can. Variation: Cut two slits in the lid of a coffee can. Make one slit about ¼â wide and another about 1â wide. Make several fat chips by gluing four poker chips together. Single chips will work in the thin slit.
* Tape Removal: Place several strips of masking tape on a tabletop, tray, or on the floor. Show the children how to pull up the strips. It's also great fun to have colored tape strips attached to the edge of the table and let them take it off and put them onto their paper. Older preschools enjoy this with masking tape and then color them with markers. We happened to have read The 3 Pigs that day so we put the tape on our chins like hair. "Not by the hair of my chinny-chin-chin" was heard over and over and over with peals of laughter LOL I brought out some mirrors and what a hey day they had!

*Stringing Tubes: Cover empty toilet paper tubes with contact paper. Cut the tubes into 2â-3â pieces. Show the children how to string the tubes onto a thick piece of yarn. Wrap one end of the yarn with masking tape to create a âneedleâ. Tie the other end of the yarn around one of the tubes to create a stopper.

Pompom Pick Up: Place 2â pompoms on a carpet square. Give the babies a buck and encourage them to pick up the pompoms and place them in the bucket or pail.

Coaster Bank: Cut a 4â x ½â slot in the top of a plastic lid of a 5 pound coffee can. Give the children plastic coasters to drop through the slot.

Soap it Up: Provide a tub of water and different size bars of soap. Invite the babies to enjoy the feel of the soap in their hands as they explore the bars of soap.

Drop the Beanbag: Provide a bucket and a bean bag. Show the children how to stand over the bucket, hold the beanbag at waist height and drop I into the bucket. When the children get good at hitting the bucket when holding the beanbag at that height, encourage them to try raising their bean bag to their chests and dropping it.

Shakers: Fill saltshakers with colored sand. Invite the infants to shake the sand onto a piece of butcher paper. Or provide construction paper with glue brushed over it for the children to use as a landing spot.

Jars and Lid: Give babies plastic jars and lids to play with. Take all the lids off and see if the children can match lids to their jars.

Ball Holders: Give infants tennis balls and a large muffin tine. Challenge them to place one ball in each cup.

Some for Preschoolers:
Sorry if I repeat.
* Run a threaded needle through cloth; sew large buttons to canvas or material.
* Cut straight and curved lines/shapes drawn on paper, cloth, etc., with scissors
* Knead dough; Play dough play with young children with the terms: poke, squeeze, pound, press, knead, etc. is always good for language too.
* Stick small objects into play dough for him/her to pull out
* Wind thread on a spool evenly
* Tie a box with string or ribbon
* Styrofoam Sewing: The ability to print and write legibly depends on the childâs degree of fine motor control. This activity give shim the small-muscle practice he needs to gain a high degree of control. Provide clean styrofoam meat trays. With a pencil or marking pen, outline the simple shape of a familiar object on the tray. With a pencil point, punch holes in the tray along the outline. Thread the needle with a 36â length of yarn, doubling it and knotting the loose ends together. Sew along the outline , in the holes, or at random on the meat tray. Because stryofoam remains rigid and does not bunch up like fabric, it is an ideal first medium for sewing.
* Simple Stencils: Trace a large die-cut shape onto the front of a manila folder and then cut out t

How to convince parents to let me get kitten?

Q. Hello. I found someone who is giving 8 week old kitten FREE with toys, litter, litter box, food. I Really want it and i showed my dad and he said oh you wanted birds i got birds. and he isnt allergic but he says that in a joking voice. he said theres isnt animals in the house and theyre dirty. It got checked, all clean and got its vaccines. Please help me out ! :D thanks.

Answer
If you don't already, you need to prove to your father that you can take on and handle the responsibility of a kitten. Be more responsible around the house, help him with work outside. Hell, if you have to, help with the cleaning around the inside of the house. It's not hard to push a dust rag or handle a vaccumm. These efforts may tell your father that you ARE trying. Before you know it, you may have a new kitten. If you're old enough, mowing grass is a geat start to helping dad around the house too! LOL. But...if it's 98 degrees where you are like it is where I live, to hell with the grass!

Anyway, kittens tend to need more care than adult cats. Like an adult, you'll have to feed it, bathe it, take it to the vet when needed, and of course love it. This will of course be a financial challenge as well. Cat food, vet's bills, and kitty litter are not free. Rest assured, they are not expensive either; at least the food and litter aren't. As an adult, the cat will take care of itself in a manner of speaking. But...you'll still have to feed it when it's hungry, change the litter boxes, bathe it, all while still LOVING IT. All the cats I've had in my home were bottle fed at one time. I'm 26 years old and have had a cat in the house since I was an infant. When I was old enough, my parents allowed me to take on the responsibilities of caring for them, including the bottle feeding process.

Keep in mind, as long as you love the animal, everything else will become second nature.

Does anybody have any tips for babysitting for an infant?

I've got a part time job for when I go to Canada babysitting a 4 month old boy. I've had babysitting experience before but for no kids under the age of 18 months. Obviously, this is quite different because he's a lot younger and I can't just leave him to play with his toys like I can do with older kids. Has anyone had any similar experiences? Can you give me some tips?

Answer
You are certainly right- you can't leave a 4 month old alone! Never leave babies unattended. They'll fall over when you think they won't/can't, etc.! You can talk to them, play with age-appropriate toys with them, sing/lullabys, bath time is enjoyable for them, even reading to them at that young age is recommeneded and my daughter seemed to enjoy it! You can go for walks in the stroller if the weather is nice enough, or just bundle baby up well if it's a bit cold. Also babies like activity centers, jumpers, exersaucers at this age. Baby will be rolling around that age and soon enough, starting to sit up and crawl which is a fun, fun time.

I am wondering what can I do to help my daughter learn how to walk?

Opal T

She just turned one year old last week. She pulls up on things and i take her walking while i hold her hands. Is there anything else I can do?

Answer
She'll walk when she is ready, but in the mean time, you can get those little push toys where she can hold on to and walk with them as she is pushing, massage legs, feet circulate the blood get it flowing... You can have her hold on to your fingers to practice walking... the options are endless... I say be as active as possible but also enjoy this time where you are not having to chase after her, and let her be an infant/toddler as Long as possible... enjoy it, raising a child is beautiful, don't rush it observe and enjoy it.

Just curious...when my son was an infant, I bought all the proper bath tub toys but now he drags in his trucks/cars and anything else that might tickle his fancy at the time. He is 2.
What kind of toys do your kids play with in the tub? And do you disinfect them regularly?(weekly?)

Answer
I just use rubbery duckies :-) I try not to make bath time so stimulating otherwise she will not sleep but play, but if she is in a cranky mood I will encourage her to play with her rubber duckies lol.

Is there something I can give my 4 month old to boost her immune system she is in daycare!?

red_rabbit

Answer
No, you shouldn't give vitamins or anything like that to infants of that age (except vitamin D for breastfed babies.) If you are breastfeeding her, you are giving her immunities that will help out with keeping her from getting sick, but other than that, just hope that your daycare provider takes precautions with kids who could be contagious and disinfecting toys and things like that.

My daughter will be 11 months old, and we're going to visit my in-laws for a week between thanksgiving and christmas. We've flown with her before, so we're not completly unexperienced. But would love any tips anyone out there can give me on making this holiday journey easier on all of us! thanks!

Answer
bring extra of EVERYTHING!!
we didnt bring enough when we went traveling and it was a big mistake, lost the only pacifier, spilled the cheerios, not enough toys to keep the baby entertained, but wipes are a big hand...bring lots of those they can be used for baby and yourself and also as toilet paper, as hand wipes, as a car cleaner...almost anything!

What do you buy a one year old girl for christmas or birthday?

Michelle N

My daughter will be 1 on november 16th, and christmas is right after. I also have friends with babies that will be turning a year old between now and then too and i just have no idea what to buy a 1 year old... And i would like detailed answers please. thank you =)

Answer
We were buying lots of things from Discovery Toys at that age. They have awesome infant and toddler toys. If you host a party, they are even more affordable. The Hammer a way, measure up cups, and tangiball were favorites at our house. (If you like those toys, you can often find more affordable similar toys in other brands at WalMart or Toys R Us.)

We also got our daughter a ride on toy like this one: http://www.littletikes.com/toys/push-ride-racer.aspx. To be honest, she had more fun playing with the box it came in. LOL

best infant toys 6-9 months image

Amy

I have no idea where to begin.. or end, for that matter.

Answer
I went to babies r us and Target. At first I wasn't going to go to babies r us, but it is amazing how much more they have than Target.

First do not register for any cute clothes. That is what most people will buy you so why register and get more outfits than you will know what to do with.

Here are some things for your registry

Bottles -even if you are breastfeeding put dowm some bottles just in case.
Bottle brush cleaner
Bottle drying rack
Swing
play mat
some toys
infant tub
hooded towels
washclothes
baby bath soap- johnsons or aveeno - I love aveeno
diapers- i wouldn't put tons of size 1 or 2 (maybe 2 boxes of each and I never bought newborn diapers)
wipes
stroller and carseat- put down for an extra base if you have more than one car
blankets- i got tons of these but you never know if you will get a lot or not
socks
sleepers, gowns
onesies ( 0-3 months, 3-6 months, 6-9 months
high chair ( personally I love the Fisher Price Space Saver)
crib
changing table not a necessity but I love mine for changing and storage
thermometer
baby medicine like mylicon drops, fever reducer

That is all I can think of for now. Good luck

my baby is a premie but I think she may be teething?

AngelofMin

She was born 13 wks early is now 10 1/2 wks old and tonight she won't eat. She's constantly crying, screaming her head off unless I put an ice cold washcloth on it and her gums look like teeth indentions. I didnt think babies started to teeth until they were 6-9 mo. old. Plz help. How can I get her to eat? Make her formula cold?

Answer
When a baby begins teething, there is no set pattern on when it will begin, how long it will take and how painful it will be. For one baby cutting a tooth might happen overnight without pain, while another child might have to go through a long, drawn out and painful experience.
You may sometimes visibly see a rise or lump in the gum for several weeks, while sometimes there may be no visible clue at all until the tooth actually appears. The process of teething often follows hereditary patterns, so if the mother and father teethed early or late, your baby may follow the same pattern. On average the first tooth comes in during the seventh month, although it can arrive as early as three months, as late as a year, or in rare cases even earlier or later.
There are several things that you can try to help ease the pain of teething; some work and some donât, but most parents agree theyâre always worth a try. Teething rings, water filled and chilled rubber teething toys; mom and dads fingers can all provide counter pressure that can sometimes bring relief. Offering your baby a cold bottle of water can also help. If sucking on the bottle bothers your child, offer a cold cup of water. The water can also help replenish your babyâs fluid if theyâre drooling a lot or have loose bowel movements.
Cold food has also been found to be helpful by some parents. Chilled applesauce, yogurt and pureed peaches may be more appealing to your baby and also more nutritious than a chilled teething ring.
When nothing else helps, you can also turn to the Infant Tylenol. Before giving your child Infant Tylenol (acetaminophen) always check with your doctor first. Your doctor will tell you if itâs all right and what the proper amount is to give your baby. Baby Orajel and other teething pain medicines that are applied to the gums can also provide some relief. Some parents say the Baby Orajel type products work great, while other parents will say it doesnât. Also check with your doctor before giving this type of over the counter pain reliever to your baby.
The teething process will come and go just like so many other things with new babies. Keep trying different things until you find what provides the best relief for your child.
Before trying any of the suggestions listed above or any other type of home remedy it is highly recommended that you contact your pediatrician first. You should follow your pediatricians advise first before trying anything mentioned on this site or on any other site. Your child's doctor knows what is best for your child.

what really worked for me was wetting one of his wash rags n sticking it in the freezer for a couple of minuets n then letting him suck n bite on it. the cold water n small ice crystals numbed his mouth. my son loved it. oh n theres also teethers that u can put in the freezer n ones that vibrate too, those also worked. u just gotta try everything to see what works for your little one. good luck

why is my 9 month old chewing on everything and what can I do?

newmom101

My daughter is chewing on everything, she has ruined her crib. And, when I let her down to crawl she will chew on furniture and anything she can get her mouth on to... She will not chew on her teething toys... I am not sure what to do?

Answer
The primary sense for infants and toddlers is touch, and what is the most sensitive part of their body? Their mouth! they'll put the object in question into their mouth, roll it around their gums and their tonge and then put the slobbery item on the floor and move onto the next item.

And if the infant has teething pains, well, all the more things will go into the mouth. Knawing on items seems to help the pain in their gums.

I highly recommend getting a couple of teething rings, or something like that and triple-checking your home for chokking hazards. If you provide something safe for your child to chew on, and make sure that marbles, coins and other small dangerous things are completely out of reach, then your child can "explore" safetly.

Oh, and hide the remote. When my two kids were toddlers, they each LOVED the remote control to chew on.

I have looked online and gotten a couple of lists of things that they suggest but I was wondering what I am really going to need for him since he is due in October. If anyone could help it would be great

Answer
warm clothes. lots of socks. all size newborn. slippers are better than shoes for babies.
carseat, stroller, swing, lots of clothes, burping pads, breast-feeding cover, baby monitor, soother maybe, lots of bottles and formula unless breastfeeding. buy diapers now once a week. a pack of size 1, 2, 3, alternating. you will be glad you did. a hat is important for newborns even if warm outside. baby soap, baby tub. crib and pj's. floor mat toy. crib toys. instrumental music for his brain development like mozart and bethoven.

My MIL says i'm a bad mother to my newborn...(please help me :( )?

Amberlyn's

I gave birth to my beautiful daughter Amberlyn Jade on June 17, 2011. My husband and I made the decision long before I gave birth that we wanted to have time to bond with our little one and get settled at home before accepting family and friends to come and see her.

We got home on June 20th and his mother was sitting in our driveway waiting for us. Apparently she had called the hospital because my husband and I had shut our phones off, and the hospital told her I'd been discharged. My husband got out of the car and told her she needed to leave and wait for us to call. My MIL told him she wasnât leaving without her grandbaby because she wanted to take her and show her off to her friends. My husband told her under no circumstances would ANYONE touch OUR daughter unless we were present. This made her cry, and she finally left. We went in the house and got settled in with our LO. After a week had passed, my husband and I felt we were ready to share our daughter with family, and I called my mother and he called his and told them they could come over. When my MIL arrived, I was sitting in the living room with my princess asleep in my arms, and my MIL walked straight in and took her out of my arms and started kissing her face and bouncing her up and down and rocking her. She didnât even wash her hands before she stuck her finger in her mouth and started saying, âOh your my precious baby Iâm gonna take you home for the weekend and buy you toys, I have your crib all set upâ, and all this other sh!t that pissed me off. My baby was screaming (she had woken her up) but my MIL said âOh your mommy doesnât know how to take care of you like I do.â My husband grabbed our daughter and took her to the nursery to calm her down and I told my MIL she needed to leave and she wasnât allowed back. She told me I was a bad mother for trying to keep her grandbaby away from her and that I didnât know how to be a mom. I told her to get out, and she left but she kept making rude comments. My mother showed up about 15 minutes later, and I had no problem letting her hold Amberlyn, because she washed her hands and waited till I handed her over. I told my mother what had happened and she told me not to pay her any attention, and that I was a great mother because I was being very careful with my daughterâs health and well-being. My family has all been over to see her, and they respect my husband and I enough to wash their hands before they hold her, they donât smoke before they come, they give her back if she starts to cry and they donât pass her around, they ask us if we mind if someone else holds her first. My husband and I really appreciate how supportive my family is being, but my husbandâs family has refused to come over, even though weâve invited them, including his mother back, as long as they follow our rules. His mother calls him every day and tells him that Iâm a bad mother because I wonât let her take my daughter out. Um, hello, sheâs barely is a month old, there is NO way in hell my daughter is going anywhere without her mother. She tells my husband that Iâm a selfish and inconsiderate mother who has postpartum depression and should be in rehab and to let her take care of our baby until Iâm âbetter.â

Iâve been letting the insults roll off my back, but last night his mother showed up at our house and my husband let her in. I was in the nursery breastfeeding my daughter and she just barged in and told me I needed to get done because she was gonna take the baby out and bring her back in the morning after she had time to spend with her. She said I was a horrible mother and should be locked up for âdepriving her of her rights as a grandma to take her grandchild out and have her spend the nightâ

Am I a bad mother? Did you let grandparents take your newborn out? Did you let them have stay over at their grandparents house? Am I just overreacting to this? I know that new moms are overprotective, but am I taking it too far? Iâm scared my little girl is gonna lose out on having both sets of grandparents. I donât want Amberlyn to resent me for not letting her be close to her grandma :( What do I do? Iâm so confused and my husband doesnât think itâs a big deal but I do :( I grew up with a very close and loving family and I want the same for her, but if all my MIL is gonna do is call me a bad mother should I just ignore that side of the family?

Answer
You are NOT a bad mom, your MIL is crazy and if she is going to keep acting like this then the best thing you can do is keep your daughter away from her (if she won't respect your wishes in your own home, lord only knows what would happen if she had the baby for a few hours). My daughter is 5 1/2 weeks old and I have not let her go anywhere without me. The only time I left her was for 5 minutes with my mother while I went to get my mail, and that was only this past weekend. I will not be letting her spend weekends with my mom or MIL anytime soon which is especially hard for my MIL to understand because my stepson is with her every weekend. And the others are right about breastfeeding - At this age, it is absolutely detrimental that you feed on demand.

This might look a tad bit long but please help me out with at least a few!!!

So I'll be finding out the gender of my baby in about a week or so & soon I need to start shopping/collecting items for my baby. I am starting to get nervous about a few things and as a first time mom I would really appreciate some help from other parents who have kids.

PLEASE help me out if you can.

Clothing --> do I need to get a lot of 0-3 months? or should I get a few and just focus on stocking up on 3-6 mnths? I know people keep telling me that the baby will grow fast.
-->What are some 'much needed' clothing items (clothes that make life a bit easier for example: clothes that you don't have to struggle putting over their head / baby gowns// etc..)

Shoes--> Do I need them? I heard baby's hate having shoes on or that they aren't needed til they walk

Items in general such as cribs, stroller, etc---> What is NEEDED exactly? Like I know that I can live without a Diaper Genie.. but a Crib is a must! So what all do I actually need & what are the things I should avoid wasting money on?

Toys--> Should I start buying toys for the baby already? How soon do they take interest and chew on the toys?

***I have a washer/dryer so I can always wash clothes (that means I probably don't need too many)
***Husband and I are financially stable so we're not worried about the cost of things if our baby needs it.

If you have any extra advice/info -moms/dads- I'd appreciate it!!! THANKS!
GOODNESS! THANK YOU SO MUCH YA'LL FOR HELPING ME OUT AND RESPONDING..I KNOW THIS WAS A TAD BIT LONG BUT YOU KNOW I APPRECIATE ALL THE INFO AND HELP I CAN GET FROM YOU!!

Answer
Clothes:Don't even bother with 'newborn',go straight tp 0-3 months. Get plenty of vests and stick to gowns and babygrows, they are easier to handle when it comes to changing times. Babygroes are the best option, gowns tend to let too much air in and newborns need to be kept as warm as possible. Get beanies and socks, you'll be using the socks for his/her hands for a while as newborns tend to scratch themselves. Get 6-12 pairs of 3-6 months clothes. It's just enough to cover you for a few days when baby starts growing out of his 0-3 months, mine is 2 months old and already wearing his 3-6 months clothes.
Skip shoes entirely. It's perfectly useless for a child that young. You can get one or two pairs when baby is around 6 months and then you'll only be using them for when you go someplace nice and you want him to look cute.
Must haves: You will need a stoler, carseat and carrycot. Get one of those strap on carriers that the mother wears and the baby rests on her chest, we have 3 and they are SO comfortable(you can use them at around 2 months) A camping cot is very convenient, though not utterly necissary. It's great to have around when visiting friends or keeping next to your bed when the tot is sick. Baby monitors, don't be cheap because the cheap ones tend to give off so much static that you can hardly hear the baby over it.
Get a comfortable changing station, even if you convert an old dresser into one. It needs to be high enough as to not hurt your back from bending over, It's a bonus if it has drawers to keep the tot's clothes close by, it needs a changing pillow(not sure what the correct term is) and get a bin that seals propperly to keep the daiper's smell locked in.
Get a baby bath and stick to nonscented products for the fist 3 months. travel changing mats are great and very cheap. Baby bags, get at least 2, one for the car and a spare.
If you aren't breastfeeding, get a bottle warmer. I know it's not a MUST have, but it saves you plenty of time running up and down to the kitchen with a screaming infant. If you are breastfeeding, get a breastfeeding pillow, or you might have backaches from bending over all the time when breast feeding. And get a baby medi kit, it has your themometer, the suction to suck up the boogies, Measuring spoons for medicine etc.
Toys: Don't go too big. Just get a rattle or two and something that makes noise and lights. They only start being interested in shiny, noisy things from around 2 months and can't hold anything until 4 months. Besides, plenty of friends will bring stuffed toys so you won't even have to bother buying any in the begining.
Congratulations!

Answer
· nail clippers - the scissor kind is worthless, get small clippers that look like adult ones

Changing Supplies

small changing pads

diapers I get huggies from diapers.com you can buy them in bulk and free over night shipping.

wipes -

changing table or countoured changing pad and a cover that can sit on top of a dresser

Bath Supplies

bath towel - buy two with hoods

· bath toys - plus a plastic cup for rinsing and pouring

· washcloths

· baby soap and shampoo or body wash

· baby lotion

· desitin or corona (Which is for animals and sold at feed supply stores. It has lanolin, which heals diaper rash faster than anything I've ever found. A nurse recommended it to me.)

· soft brush

· infant bath tub or sling - I preferred the sling because the tubs are so hard to store

Feeding Supplies
bottles - 1 or 2 are nice even if you plan on breastfeeding

binkie

· burp clothes - need 4 to 6 or more if your baby has reflux

breast pads- If you dont breastfeed your might leak.

formula- even you do breastfeed if always good to have some on hand just in case.

breast pump - I found hand pumps worked better than electric.

you can wait until your baby is four months old before buying these items ( or stock up now they grow fast)

· plastic bibs - get a small one that fits the baby's neck

baby spoons - plastic coated ones are the best

baby food and cereal also plain mashed potato flakes are easy to fix and cheap.

sippy cup - I like the ones with handles for first time drinkers

Bring home from the hospital

alcohol pads

soft brush for scrubbing babies head while bathing - this prevents cradle-cap

nose aspirator

Sleeping Essentials

crib

receiving blankets - buy 4 to 6 because babies need to be wrapped up when they are first born

sheets - at least two for when your baby poops or throws up on one

Car Basics

infant car seat

sun screen for the car window

Clothing

clothes - don't buy too many you will receive a lot of 0-3 month clothes at your baby shower. If you get too many which you probably will take them back and buy a bigger size. Figure out how old your child will be the next time the season comes around and buy that size.

pajamas - buy lots of these, 4 to 6 pairs, because they are easy to change and keep your newborn warm

onesies

socks - keep those baby feet warm

Toys and Board Books

teething rings

toys with bright colors and music

balls

blocks

rubber toys for chewing

soft toys for cuddling

board books - not paper

Great extras

bounce chair - my son slept in his the first three months because he was elevated and it helped his acid reflux

swing - some children love these and some don't

baby carrier - I used to take mine to the grocery store and carry my baby in it so I had my hands free.

stroller - I used to take my son on walks for exercise.

bassinet - this is nice because you can keep the baby closer for the first month

rocking chair - babies love the rocking motion

My mom wants to give away some of my infant - toddler toys and possibly some clothing items, to some little kids.
WHY? They're mine. I don't play with them but they're still mine. I want to keep them all. She lets my adult uncle keep all his toys in our house though she wants to give away his. I want those toys too.

Answer
My parents didn't keep any of our toys or clothes--the clothes were handed down to the next one in line. I kept most of my children's toys and some of their clothing also.

Would a 3 month old still be interested in a baby gym toy?

I read reviews from parents of 4 weeks old to 3 month old babies. Until what age are babies still interested in a baby gym? The can be quite pricey and wouldn't want to have it for a few weeks only... Thank you.

Answer
My children are about 20 weeks old and they still love it. They always sat in it and looked, but they really couldn't play with the toys until they were about 15 weeks. It has been incredibly worth it. My friend has a 8 month old who still plays with thier gym - only now he can crawl around it on his own.

Can anybody give me reviews or advice about ferrets?

Aluminum L

I really want a ferret, and I'm planning on getting 2 or 3 this Christmas. I was wondering what would be a good cage, good food and treats, good toys, etc. Anything you want to share...

Answer
Do NOT get your ferret a wheel or a ball they are not good for their spines. Here's some tips:

If your ferrets aren't neutered ask your vet if you can get desloreline implants rather than neutering or spaying...not all vets offer it but it isnt associated with adrenal disease like spaying and neutering is. if not you MUST spay your female ferrets.

Cage should be a minimum of 3X2X3 for a pair of ferrets, a cage can NEVER be too big. Good cages are the Ferret Nation, Marshall Penthouse, Townhouse, Mansion and Estate, and http://www.martinscages.com/products/cages/ferret/ (the Townhouse, Hotel, and Penthouse are all suitable). If you are in the UK, the Rat and Rodent 100 by Sky pet products, The Explorer rat cage and the Ferret Nation are all good...google these products for prices and supplies.

Good toys for ferrets are jingly cat bell balls, make sure they are not soft plastic or rubber, stuffed animals with no chewable buttons or bits that can come off, hammocks, tubes to run through, plastic bags (they love the noise but under supervision only), paper bags, boxes, cat teaser toys ping pong balls (throw them away when they dent) and most toys designed for ferrets. Avoid soft plastic or any rubber toys, ferrets will destroy and eat them.

Good on you for getting more than one, three is a good number...I have five lol. Ferrets should NOT be kept on their own, its cruel.

You should spend at least four and preferably six hours with your ferrets daily, keeping an eye on them and playing with them in a ferret proofed area (google for more on ferret proofing).

The best food for ferrets is the raw diet, its more biologically appropriate than dried foods. Google BARF ferrets for info on this. If this option is out for you, the ONLY foods I would recommend are Evo ferret (or Evo cat if you cant get the ferret, its about the same) Orijen cat or if you are in the UK, Applaws kitten. Normally cat and kitten foods aren't much good for ferrets but these particular foods are high in protein and low in carbs which is exactly what a ferret needs. Avoid 8 in 1, Marshalls and most other foods.

For treats, best to avoid too many of the pet store bought ones, they are full of sugar. You can buy pure dried chicken treats, or dry chicken out yourself in you oven. Good treats for ferrets are unsalted and unprocessed meat, small amounts of scrambled or boiled egg, raw bones, goats milk or cat milk (small amounts), and VERY occasionally tiny pieces of non acidic fruits such as mango, melon and banana...but not too much ferrets are carnivores.

Start saving for vets fees now, ferrets can cost a bomb at the vets.

Ferrets are a LOT of work, do your research before you decide to buy. They have a lot of downsides to be aware of...a lot of baby ferrets bite quite hard and have to be trained out of it, litter training can be a pain and take ages, ferrets do have a strong smell (descenting does NOT prevent this), they are very accident prone and prone to illness as they get older.

Read the following:

Ferrets for Dummies, second edition

http://www.ferretcentral.org

If you are in the UK also visit http://www.ferretsforum.co.uk

And have fun with your ferrets, if you are up to the work, they are amazing pets.

My four month old infant has very spastic hand movements is this normal?

Bella

My four month old daughter has very spastic hand/arm movements like she cant control them. And she was doing very good eating stage one baby food but recently, in the past two weeks or so, she has been having a hard time doing what looks like swallowing. Her tongue just pushes the food out of her mouth. When she concentrates on a toy, she can bring her hands to it but then soon drops it because her arms spaz. Is this normal or should talk to a doctor about possible signs of a tic?

Answer
If she is pushing food out with her tongue SHE IS NOT READY FOR SOLIDS. Forcing solids at this stage damages her natural gag reflex. Babies loose the 'tongue thrust reflex' around 4-7 months. This is a natural reflex that all babies have, and will go away on its own.

As for the spasms, she is still young. You can ask the doc for better advice on this.

Answer
The Best Teething Toys

By Miebeth Bustillo-Booth, ChildTrek Founder

Natural & Wood Teethers
The best teething toys are made of natural materials like wood. Wood is naturally anti-bacterial. (Thatâs why there are wooden cutting boards.) So it is self-cleaning. Wood is hard and will help ease teeth in. But not all wood toys are ideal. The best wooden teething toys are either unfinished or lightly finished with beeswax, water-based stains, or other non-toxic paints. Itâs best to gain the manufacturer statements to this effect. At ChildTrek, only toys that have met or exceeded safety standards are available.

Great Teething Toys
Grabbing Toy Giraffe with Wooden Teething Ring by Kathe KruseConsider the Infant Grabbing Toy Mah or Giraffe by Kathe Kruse. They are made out of non-porous beech wood, lightly finished with beeswax, and made using non-toxic dyes. There are no harmful chemicals to leach out while your baby gnaws on the hard wood. The wooden ring is extra large for easy handling by small hands. The lamb and the giraffe can be removed for machine or hand wash. And they are completely adorable!

The Grabbing Star Red or Blue also by Kathe Kruse has a wooden teething ring and interesting textures for early learning stimulation. A special feature is a velcro loop at one of the star ends so that it can be fastened as a stroller toy. This achieves a couple of things: the teether is always nearby and it doubles as a grabbing toy. Smart!

Girali Rattle by SelectaThe Girali Rattle by Selecta, aside from being a practical teething toy, is uniquely beautiful. It is made of native woods from Germany and finished with beeswax and non-toxic paints - completely safe for your baby.

Also, itâs hard to beat the Cherry Rattle by Camden Rose. It is lightly finished with beeswax. Its contoured design makes for interesting tactile stimulation. Its gentle rattle is soothing. As a teether - it is naturally hard to facilitate teething. Watch as your baby gnaws on this beautiful toy for hours.

Cold and Soothing
Organic Vegetabe Teethers by Under the NileOne of my personal favorites for the summer are the organic teethers by miYim and Under the Nile. Take the Bunny, Elephant, or Bear teether. Dampen, not soak it. Put it in the freezer. Then let your baby gnaw on this cool toy to help soothe tender gums. Do the same for the Fruits or the Vegetables by Under the Nile. Besides gently soothing for your baby, you are teaching your baby to âeatâ his or her fruits and veggies!

Vary Teethers
Itâs best to keep a few different teethers around that have varying textures and hardness. Some teeth come in easier than others. The molars, for example, are especially hard on infants.

How do I teach my 7 month old to fall asleep on her own?

Momof2

The easiest & only way I can usually get my baby to sleep is to hold her while giving her a bottle. I've tried to put her in her crib when she's tired in hopes that she'll fall asleep on her own, but she always flips to her belly and gets stuck like that. She hasn't yet figured out how to flip back onto her back and this frustrates her. So just cries & cries until I come to save her from being stuck on her belly.

Answer
This cutie is your first, isn't she?

Listen and please trust me on this ... your seven month old wants to fall asleep on her own as much as you want her to, and at seven months old, she should already be doing so.

Her falling asleep on her own will never happen unless ...

1.) she has a non-negotiable and consistent bedtime & nightly routine

and

2.) if you don't get over the need to save her.

I know that item #2 sounds cruel and harsh, but believe me, I've been there with my own daughter (who is now 18-years old) and I have watched many, many well-meaning loving mommies (especially the new ones) make this mistake.

No mommy wishes to hear her baby cry. It's awful. It rips your heart out. I've been there.

However, understand, they will cry at bedtime - they all do.

It is your job however to understand the difference between a cry of infant frustration and a cry of pain and real need. Usually to listen to your child through a baby monitor is the best way to discern the difference.

Your peditrician I am sure will tell you it is not a good idea to have your baby go to sleep with her bottle. You need to stop that ritual right away. It is also not a good idea to have a 7-month old up and awake after 7 PM. I would say 8 PM at the very latest.

Your seven month old should be fed for the night one hour before she goes to her crib for the night. After that feeding YOU then begin to slowly ease her into bedtime. You develop a routine. It can be anything you like, but it should not include too much stimulation or excessive cuddling.

For example, my routine was to feed my infants then have them watch me, from either the swing or floor mat etc., ease the house down. By this I mean all toys and play things got picked-up and put away, the lights would be dimmed, the television or CD-player got lowered, and mommy (me) my voice, my demeanor would become as calm and gentle as the night. Then would come the final diaper change complete with a baby massage and very gentle kisses.

After that - bed time for baby. My husband and I would always put the babies to bed together. I found it was easier if Dad carries baby to the crib and places him or her in. I also found it helpful to have a nightlight on and to put the babies in their crib with the room dark. Make the bye-bye, love you, simple and sweet and quick and then close the door.

The baby is going to cry. You are going to feel worse then shit. You are going to want to save her - for goodness sakes she's your love, your child! DON'T!!!

In two-weeks, if you develop a loving and calm nightly routine and stick to it and if you can keep yourself from running to her everytime she exercises a little bit of infant frustration, you will see, the crying will become less and less with every passing night.

HI,
Iâm looking for data about the typical sales volumes of an infant toy. Iâm only interested in toys of leading companies, such as Fisher Price, Tomy, MGA, Hasbro, Learningcurve and step2.

Just to clarify, Iâm not looking for the total amounts of toys of any kind that a company sold. The key is the number of units sold per specific toy model.

Any solid data to backup the answer will be highly appreciated.

What is a mother of a small infant supposed to do when the baby is sleep or contented?

Axumult

I see a LOT of holier-than-thou parents in real life, and elsewhere, preach about all this QT one is supposed to have with one whose attention span rivals a forest creature. I'm asking, if the child is in no obvious distress and is happy, or resting, should the parent fix a sandwich for his or herself if they are hungry? Is it cool to do a few loads of laundry, or maybe even take out some garbage or check your e-mail if baby is on her mat playing with blocks? Or, is this child abuse and neglect? Should the parent just fix their presence before the child with insta-bond and leave only to put baby in their crib for bedtime/naps? If so, where do they sell IV's for parents and are there new robots issued out to parents at the hospital that cook, take out trash, do the wash, and etc? Just wondering...I never got my issue or my IV (still looking), and I feel like a bad parent because she gets stuck (gasp) watching TV sometimes while I throw a grilled cheeze together for myself.

Answer
Aw hon sounds like you are terrified of being misjudged, which only tells me that you are probably a darn fantastic mom! Look, children will always get into trouble, no matter what you do or how close you are. Those quiet moments are gold, so do what you must. If the child is sleeping, use a room monitor. If they're involved with their favorite toy, keep them in plain sight. No manuals are available, but common sense is a must. Not to worry. God gave you your share when he made you!

Do Christians know why they spend money on trees and the many decorations on them? Why do we buy our children guns, both real and toys, to celebrate the Birth of The Prince of Peace? Why do we lie. and say a morbidly obese man in a red suit and beard comes down the chimney with a bag of toys?

Answer
Christmas is nothing to do with either Christianity or Islam but it does have it's origins in the midwinter festival and many other basically pagan rites but since much of it is a celebration of nature rather than religion everyone should be able to enjoy it and be happy together despite religion!

The ancient European pagans celebrated the midwinter festival and a number of other festivals long before Christianity ever existed!

Babylonians celebrated the feast of the Son of Isis with gluttonous eating and drinking, and gift giving and the goddess of fertility, love, and war.

The Romans held a festival on 25 December called âDies Natalis Solis Invicti, celebrating their own god Sol Invictas â PAGAN!

The Persian god Mithras, the Syrian sun god Elah Gabal, the German Sol, the Greek Helios and the Mesopotamian Shamash. But also Saturnalia, honouring Saturn, the God of Agriculture. The law courts and schools were closed. No public business could be transacted an this is where the holidays originated - ALL PAGAN!

Wax tapers were given by the more humble to their superiors. The origin of the Christmas candle - PAGAN!

In Rome groups of costumed went from house to house entertaining their people. And this was where the carolling Christmas tradition originated PAGAN!

Statues of the Mother and lover or Mother and son were paraded through the streets not only in Italy but also in Africa, Spain, Portugal, France, Germany and Bulgaria. Thus, the symbolism of the Heavenly Virgin and the infant child paraded on a yearly basis are not of Christian origin. They stem from the Mother-goddess religion, which is very ancient ENTIRELY PAGAN!

Scandinavian countries celebrated Yule honouring Thor â PAGAN!

In Germania (not Germany) they celebrated midwinter night followed by 12 wild nights of eating and drinking. The 12 days of Christmas PAGAN!

The church under Pope Julius I declared that Christâs birth would be celebrated on December 25 in 350 AD in order to try to hijack the PAGAN festivals but it was largely ignored. Christians did not really celebrate Christmas until 378 but it was then dropped in 381 and not resurrected until 400.

The Christmas tree stems from pagan tradition and ritual surrounding the Winter Solstice, which included the use of holly boughs ivy and other foliage as an adaptation of pagan tree worship. Holly and ivy represented male and female. Mistletoe was considered a sacred plant, and the custom of kissing under the mistletoe began as a fertility ritual - all PAGAN!

Santa Claus came from the Dutch âSinterklaasâ and was a tall figure riding a white horse through the air and usually accompanied by Black Peter, an elf who punished disobedient children. Also the origin of the reindeer, sleigh and the elves ALL PAGAN!

The modern red coated Santa was brought about by coca cola!

AMERICA ACTUALLY BANNED CHRISTMAS several times and is the originator of the expression âHappy Holidaysâ which came about because of the pagan origins of Christmas to include all religions and traditions!

The Venerable Bede, an early Christian writer pointed out that the Christian church absorbed Pagan practices when it found the population unwilling to give up the festivals. Thus a lot of what Christians now see as Christians practices are in fact pagan!

Christmas is the time of year christians strive to prove just how pagan they have become

What can I do for my baby who hates riding in the car?

jkat405

My 12 month old baby HATES riding in the car. He started in an infant-carrier style seat. We then switched him to a more comfortable rear-facing seat. Recently, we turned that same seat around to be forward facing. We've tried giving him toys, a sipee cup, putting a mirror on the seat he faces. It doesn't matter if the trip is for 5 minutes or 45 minutes. He starts screaming the second he realizes that we are putting him in his car seat. He gets so upset that he gets red splotches all over his face and he throws up. Sometimes, we can entertain him by playing peekaboo or giving him Cheerios, but this only keeps him calm for a few minutes. My mother-in-law suggested that he may have motion sickness.

Is there anything that we can do to make riding in the car less of a nightmare?
I think that Nimo2 is right. The other answers were good, but I've tried those things or variations of them and nothing seems to work. I was afraid that it was a stage that we would have to suffer through.

What I think that I'll try though is getting him to sit or play around the car seat outside of the car as was suggested (THANK YOU). Just looking at the seat makes him cry. Maybe getting him used to the seat in a happy non-car environment will help.

Answer
Have you tried changing carseats. Maybe he is not comfy anymore. Take the car seat in the house and let him play with it. Let him use it to watch tv and to play on. Let him play in while you are in the car, not driving down the road. If you are working outside let him play in the car , without the keys in it. Once he knows it is not something bad he will calm down. Do you have a portable DVD player? Take a movie that he has started to watch at home and move it to the car.

I'm 14, i had sex with my 13 year old best friend who is a girl, i asked if i should do it or not on here a couple week ago, most people said i shouldn't, I'm sorry i didn't listen to those guys :'( someone please help what should i do should i tell my parents??? Can i get arrested because we're underage? She wants to keep the baby, but that means i will loose my education looking after it please help me

Answer
No you can't get arrested at least not in the US if one were an adult and the other a minor it would be different but the law is the least of your worries just hope her father doesn't shoot you. Hope she doesn't call rape. You will not lose your education looking after the baby, see your high school guidance counselor for information on what you can do. As the father you actually have no say she can literally abort your baby and there is absolutely nothing you can do about it. I found out from the bottom website that you do have a right if paternity is established to prevent a third party adoption but you need legal representation. As for what to tell your parents. Tell them the truth. Come up with a plan first how much is it going to cost to feed, clothe, and childcare for the baby. How will you finish your education, get your guidance counselors help? Your childhood is officially over even if she aborts or the baby is given up for adoption or miscarries you will never be the same ever again there is no easy way out and no way out. Best case scenario Clothes $5.00 a bag prior seasons clothes thrift store in the spring or maybe the charity will have compassion on you and give you what you need. $10.00 yard sale play yard to sleep baby. $6.00 for 30 off brand disposable diapers think 60 diapers a week, or go cloth if babysitter. daycare is willing to use. Baby wash 1 tsp baking soda to 8 oz water. Baby safe detergent use homemade detergent (1 bar grated soap dissolved in 5 gal hot water) and vinegar to soften, clean, disnfect and remove odors recipies on line. Blend your own baby food or go on WIC they will provide you with formula.
Stay off the drugs (both to keep parental rights and to get into the military) graduate high school at an accelerated rate by age 17 and join the military family housing allowance free insurance (does not include dental) food allowance and clothing allowance it isn't a glamorous job and you will still qualify for food stamps but your family will be taken care of. You need at the very minimum 5 sets of clothes per baby per 3, 6, 12, 24 and 36 month size and at least two warm sweaters or something. 24-36 month shirt is a newborn night gown and size 2 capris are 6 month pants cause of the diaper difference when you change to panties. You can get these clothes from a charity or a friend sho's kid outgrew it. Toys will be the least of your worries the only toys they really need are a binky and hard rubber teething ring, they love to play with non toys like matching socks and stacking measuring cups. The best infant soother out there is the womb sounds bear which you should give your child even if given up for adoption because it reminds them of the comfort of the womb and will be the only piece of you that s/he will have. You and the baby and best friend will qualify fro food stamps and WIC and clothing programs by charities. Your baby momma will need at least two maternity outfits one dress and one pair pants. Maybe her dress and shirts will stretch with her. Ask a relative like your grandmother if she can sit for you for nothing. I was older when I got pregnant before marriage and I know how tough it can be telling Dad and Mom first develop your own plan and then get your parents in on it and listen to their plan. You have a right to keep your child. And you can finish school I am 30 with three kids and I am still in college and I graduate next spring it is tough but not impossible. I owe all my financial stability to the military and I recommend that you join. You don't have to make a career out of it but it will set you on your feet financially and help you provide for your kid. Medicaid will cover all pre and post natal appointments and the birth.

First Time Mom & I Need Help On Baby Items/etc..?

Tabs

Make friends who will help! Get your extended family involved.
Learn positive coping mechanisms for hard feelings now, because when you are cranky tired and can't get a break, you will need a positive way to cope.
There are probably 6 general things you need for good health: 1. nutrition 2. avoid toxins 3. quality sleep 4. exercise 5. positive social interaction 6. positive coping skills for dealing with stress.

Nutrition is more than just getting the RDA of all the minerals and vitamins you need; it is also about not getting too much of certain ones. Some need to be in the proper ratios and proportional to others. Eating a raw vegan diet of organic vegetables and greens is an easy way to get all you need without getting too much. But taking a multivitamin, you can get too much iron or vitamin A, for example.
Part of nutrition is having a gut that can properly digest and absorb nutrition, so understanding how to fix the common problem of gut dysbiosis can help tremendously. Here is a newsletter that helps explain it: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1B6JbDMF1hDCpFMY2VI2IlvlZ7_ddKhuNN6JVzo03_iA/edit?hl=en_US

Avoiding toxins is part of nutrition, but it also involves not smoking nor drinking alcohol. There is an epidemic of depression and anxiety in the world today and a lot of it is caused by the neurotoxin fluorine being present in air pollution. Fluoride is even added to water in the guise of preventing carries. But fluoride is a neurotoxin which is used in pesticides, rate poisons, anti-depressant drugs, and anesthetic. Because incidental exposure is so high and because it is cumulative, it is worth it to avoid it where ever possible.

I could go on and on about health, but to further answer your question, there are some things you may want to acquire in order to make your life easier when the baby comes out. Obviously you will want a crib, sheets and blankets, diapers, diaper genie, changing table, stroller or carry-all, car seat, play pen, toys, clothes, etc. You don't NEED all these things, but they do make taking care of a baby seem easier and safer. But you will need space to keep all this stuff as well. If you don't have a spare room to make the baby's room, then it will be better to figure out how to make your existing space work before acquiring a lot of stuff. You can use your dresser top for a changing space, but you will need to keep it cleared off. Clear off your bathroom sink if you plan to use that for giving the baby a bath, otherwise you will want to acquire a plastic tub designed for that.
A lot of these items can be obtained second hand cheaply or even free from various charities or individuals. Safety items such as car seats have expiration dates because over time the plastic can turn brittle.
To mentally prepare, you will want to learn some meditation and self discipline. Here is a link to a good description of one meditation: https://docs.google.com/document/d/1GYTh2zd0KamjfPPi6H2GRcNbQeyeNi5w-SsctBOme4U/edit

I hope you think it common sense, but you would never spank an infant. You can learn about when is the appropriate time and the proper way to use corporal punishment to discipline by reading "Discipline with Love" by Dr. James Dobson. Hitting a child in anger is abuse, but spanking a 4-year old to teach obedience is loving. It's important to know the difference. Failing to teach a child to respect authority by the time they are 5 years old can result in a lifetime of problems. Reading this one short book can help you avoid years of frustration.
There are other great books: "What to Expect When You're Expecting" etc.
Learn everything you can, but don't worry. Many people have successfully raised children with no helpful books or specific gear. The most important thing is to keep a can-do attitude.

My son's lead level was 5.0. The doctor advised me to get rid of all toys that were made in China?

London

My son is 18 months old, I don't want to expose him to lead. How to I determine what is safe and not safe. Having doing an inventory of his toys, the majority have been made in China. HELP!

Answer
Every responsible parent knows to keep cabinet doors locked so that young ones don't have access to dangerous chemicals, but what about lead, a toxin found in many common children's toys? How do you know if your child's toys contain lead and what can you do to minimize their risk of exposure to this harmful substance?

Lead is a toxic metal that can have devastating effects on the mental and physical development of children. The brain and nervous system of children younger than six years old are the most at risk for lead poisoning. Even low exposure levels can produce damaging effects ranging from impaired growth and hearing, to problems with posture and behavior.

High levels of lead exposure can cause deafness, blindness, convulsions, or in rare instances, even death. Even without severe effects, children exposed to lead are more likely to experience difficulties with reading and vocabulary, attention and focus, and fine-motor coordination.

So how does lead make its way into the products that consumers buy for children? Lead is used in manufacturing in paint and plastic used to make children's toys. Paint used in houses, on products sold for children, and on dishes has been banned from containing lead in the United States since 1978, but this regulation has not reached some countries that still export products to the US.

In those countries it is still legal to utilize lead in the production of plastic, even when the plastic is used to make children's toys. The lead acts as a softener to make plastic more flexible, which allows it to return to its original shape. The breakdown of the chemical bond between lead and these plastics forms lead dust, a known health hazard.

You can visit your State Department of Health's Lead Hazard Product Recall Website for information concerning toy recalls. You will also find a comprehensive list at the US Consumer Product Safety Commission website.

There are home testing kits offered that are designed to test household items, toys, soil, and dust for lead content, but these do-it-yourself kits are not recommended as reliable by The State Department of Health and the Federal Environmental Protection Agency.

Lead screening can help identify children with blood lead levels that may be dangerous. Infants that play with older toys (antique toys, toys passed down through generations, or toys made before the ban on paint with lead) and toys made in other countries may be at greater risk.

Before you buy new or used baby toys, make sure the toys that you intend to purchase do not appear on the recall list. You can even do some research about the country in which the toy is manufactured. Some stores now have information on file compiled to trace the country of origin for the toys that they sell.

You can also inspect toys that your child already plays with for chipping and peeling paint, the number one source for lead poisoning in children. Be careful when choosing colorful jewelry and toys, especially those imported from other countries.

Keeping your baby safe is a parent's primary concern. Baby Toys Galore offers a huge selection of developmental and just-for-fun toys for baby, including many made with organic products. Baby Toys Galore encourages parents and grandparents to keep baby safe by staying informed.

The toddler will have his own seat, but I will be holding the baby. My questions are, should the toddler fly in his carseat, and if should we be taking a stroller to the gate (I have a double jogger).
Anyone who has gone through this, please give advice! This is not a vacation, it is for a cross country move so both carseats will need to go on the plane in some way.

Answer
Definitely strap the toddler into his seat and buckle him in. Don't get him out for any reason. Treat it like a car trip. Take a stroller to the gate, but I'd recommend just using a single stroller because they're easier to fold and deal with and get a sling or Bjorn for your infant. It'll be easier for everyone involved! Make sure to have new toys in a backpack for him. Think: a new box of crayons, coloring book and paper, play doh, little plastic animals and cars. One thing my grandmother did for me in a similar situation was to wrap little junky toys like the ones mentioned above and at certain time intervals I was allowed to open a new one. It made the trip go faster (according to my parents) and I only got them if I was behaving myself. Good luck!

What are somethings you look for for child care?

Q. I'm thinking about starting up a child care business. I'm planing on getting certified, but I was just wondering what one looks for when deciding on what child care service to go with? Just want to hear from people that have put their children into child care, so I know what I could exceed at. Thank you!

Answer
Okay, I have worked in the child are field for 10 years and I have a baby so I am extremely anal when looking for child care, so here goes:

1) Caregiver must be CPR and first aid certified (child and infant)
2) Caregiver must be trained in ECE OR have lots of experience with young children
3) Small group setting (max of 5 children)
4) lots of opportunity for outside time
5) Activities - Creative time such as fingerpainting and getting messy, songs, stories, outings, cooking, different things each day, emergent curriculum (go with interests of children, not set themes), science, nature, etc.
6) For infants and toddlers - communication books
7) No smoking household
8) Clean house
9) Quiet areas for children to sleep
10) Healthy home-made meals following the food guide (1 meal and at least two snacks per day)
11) Everyone in the house must have a recent police check
12) What would you do in an emergency?
13) Back-up care if you are sick
14) Policies around vacation and sick days - parents should get two weeks a year of vacation where they do not have to pay
15) Safe, large areas for play (large fenced-in backyard, adequate shade, no dangers)
16) Age appropriate toys and activities
17) Use of TV - a big no-no for me and one of the reasons I pulled my daughter out of home daycare and enrolled her in a centre
18) Interest caregiver shows in my child (do they want to hold them?) and how they interact with other children
19) Discipline method - obviously parents would be looking for positive discipline
Good luck!

Where can I find replacement blocks for a Fisher-Price toy?

best infant toys for 2010 image

I recently bought my daughter a Fisher-Price Stack 'n Surprise Blocks Songs 'n Smiles Sillytown. I got it on sale at Toys R Us about a month ago for $25. My husband brought it to his mom's house for our daughter to play with while she stayed over there for a couple hours, and her cousin took all of the pieces to his house and lost them. She now only has 3 blocks left! The cheapest price I found for this toy was $68 on amazon, and all I need is a couple of blocks. I checked ebay, nothing! This toy is completely out of stock everywhere and probably discontinued! Will I be able to find replacement blocks anywhere??

Answer
Yes the set was discontinued in 2010. If you visit the Fisher Price web page for this particular toy, on the right hand side, there will be a shopping cart. Select United States in the drop down menu. http://service.mattel.com/us/product_detail.asp?id=T3174&Ntt=T3174&Pn=1&Brand=Fisher-Price+Infant+Toys&Cat=Stack+'n+Surprise+Blocks

Then on the shopping page, select Baby Gear under Fisher Price. Then select Infant Toys. Then select Other Infant Toys. Then select Stack N Surprise Blocks Peek A Boo Choo Choo. You can purchase replacement blocks that are compatible with all Stack N Surprise toys. They run $9 a set. Hopefully this direct link will work, but if not, I hope my directions above explain how to get there. https://store.mattel.com/CatalogBrowser.aspx?cmd=local&cat=140&sec=9761

Please help.. My 14 months old daughter is delayed, autism?

Eyecandy77

My 14 months old daughter is delayed in her social skills and fine motor skills. She is not waiving, not clapping, not pointing, not self feeding. She will sometimes show where my eyes are or mouth, when I ask her, and she will look at a picture on the wall when I ask where the picture is. But she rarely pays any attention to me or anyone else. She loves to play with all her toys, but she doesn't do anything repeatedly (like pushing the same button over and over). When I talk to her or ask her something she ignores me, and continues to do what she was doing like playing with her toy or watching tv. When she watches her cartoons and I get in front of her to get her attention she completely ignores me like I'm a see-through ghost. I'm worried sick.. Has anyone had a kid who was delayed in these areas (waiving, paying attention to mommy, pointing etc), and now are older and normal? Or is she for sure has an autism. I've convinced myself that she does and can't stop panicing. I will make an apt with the neurologist tomorrow, and I was told by an Early Intervention program that she is significantly delayed in her social skills and fine motor skills such as picking up small cereal and putting them in her mouth. (she doesn't do that at all). She seems like normal happy baby to me, she loves it when I sing to her, she looks directly at me into my eyes when I sing, or when I do silly games. She loves pikaboo games and runs to me on her walker when I call her all excited. But when I talk to her most of the time ignores me. I would love to hear from someone who went through this and their kid turned out fine. Some words of encouragement also would help :( thank you so much. I am so afraid of what the neurologist would say. It seems like 100% of normal kids do all these things. If I can just find one who didn't do these things and turned out normal, I could breath just a little easier. Thanks again!
About vaccines etc.. We are on dr. Sears vaccine schedules and we haven't even gotten everything she needs. So I really don't think this could be from vaccines we are being very careful about them.

Answer
You are right to be concerned, but don't worry about this until you have done some homework and researched the issue. There is a wonderful web site you can visit to see the symptoms and what is being done to not only help autistic children but what can be done to prevent it.

Go to: www.childhoodshots.com

Mary Tocco has been researching vaccines for 30 years and has a volume of information on this subject. Her daughter, Rene Tocco, is the doctor that has dedicated her practice to AUTISM and that is the web site above. Many of the problems children are having today are a result of what is being done to the children in doctor's offices and the food they are eating and the lack of information on good breast feeding, etc.

Become educated, not indoctrinated.

EDIT: NO child needs ANY vaccine. It is a very well known documented fact that children who do not get vaccinated are far healthier and grow up much more healthy. Believe what you will about vaccines, but those promoting it is relying on indoctrination and distortion of the facts, not educated facts.

EDIT: Here's a wonderful article for you to read to get a better in depth understanding of why vaccines are causing many of the problems your child is experiencing.

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/11/01/flu-vaccine-and-its-side-effects.aspx

Dr. Sears is just spreading the poisons over longer time between getting the poison injections. Infants and babies should NOT be receiving these injections at all. Look at the evidence to learn the truth. Pediatricians were invented to inject poisons and nothing more. The well baby visits is just an injection party, nothing more.

If you are still in doubt about this, watch Dr. Maurice Hilleman that was the Number 1 vaccine expert, researcher, and developer of over 40 popular vaccines talk about the "Bargain Basement Technology" vaccines are in this confidential interview:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edikv0zbAlU

Now watch this video showing the probity of the Bayer Pharmaceutical that makes aspirin for the world and how they view PROFIT over HEALTH:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wg-52mHIjhs&feature=related

Is it no wonder the public has started to reject what these guys are promoting?

Drug companies would have you believe their technology saved the world of disease, but nothing is farther from the truth. Look at this study on small pox that drug companies tell you they eradicated:

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2000/12/31/smallpox-vaccine-part-one.aspx

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2000/12/31/smallpox-vaccine2.aspx

Babies are being damaged by these corporations that are promoting this farce. BIG MONEY is being made by them. In fact drug companies make 5 times the profit of any U.S. corporation and politicians get a huge amount of this. This is why the recent Health Care Law funnels so much money directly to them. Both Republicans and Democrats are to blame and the public is getting the booby prize. And the worst part is that children are the victims.

good luck to you
