what are some thinga/toys your baby had between the age if 6-12 months?

blush

my baby is 7 months and he has a few things, like a play mat with hanging animals that makes noises and sings, los of toys, a walker..
what type of things did you havee for your baby to help him/her start to crawl or pull himself up or just for fun that they loved?
thanx!

Answer
Hi

Toys that make music or any form of noise are favorites of babies. Toys with contrasting colors are really interestng to babies and help to stimulate the development of their vision. As they grow, infants use toys to explore object permanence and cause and effect relationships. They also need objects such as blocks to help them build motor skills and hand-eye coordination.

Have a look at the links in my source box which may give you some ideas

Take care

To mothers of infants 6-12 months old i need particapents for school please?

Here are some questions that i wish you would be willing to answer about your infant. Just explain if you agree or not. Also if you could put what age your child was.

Thanks in advance

·Sits unaided- spends more time in upright position
·May be able to crawl
·May be able to climb stairs
·Develops eye-hand coordination
·Prefers primary caregivers
·May cry when strangers approach
·Commonly exhibits anxiety when parent or caregiver leaves
·Pats own reflection in the mirror
·May push away things not wanted (e.g., bottle, toys)
·Begins to âplayâ with adults
·Babbles to himself or herself
·Puts everything in mouth
·Solves simple problems (e.g., will move obstacles aside to reach object)
·Transfers from hand to hand
·Responds to changes in environment and is able to repeat actions that cause change (e.g., sound of rattle)
·Drops objects repeatedly
·Fascinated with small objects
·Begins to respond to words

These are three theories. Please tell me which on u agree withand why

Freudâs first stage of psychosexual development is the oral stage, which lasts from birth to about 15 months. In this stage, the id, which contains all the basic needs and feelings, is dominant. The ego, the rational part of the mind, is under formation due to the development of body image and delay of gratification. Body image is developed as the infant realizes that the body is distinct from the outer world. The infant also gradually realizes that gratification is not immediate and that it has to produce certain behaviors to initiate actions that lead to gratification. The key experience in this stage is weaning, which leads to the childâs first feeling of loss, and the babyâs awareness of self. Success during this stage leads to the formation of independence and trust, whereas too much or too little gratification can lead to an immature or passive personality.

Erick Ericksonâs theory states that children from 0-12 months of age are in stage one of psychosocial development. This stage is called the oral sensory stage. Erickson believes that neonates at this stage can experience Trust or Mistrust. Trust meaning infants live through and love through their mouths. In the trust stage parents will respond to the infants needs with consistency and continuity, infants believe the world is a safe place. Mistrust can occur with parents who are overly protective; child will be overly trusting and gullible. Child cannot believe that anyone would harm them

Piaget is best known for his cognitive development theory. The first scheme of his theory is the Sensorimotor and this scheme is divided into four different stages 0-12 months. During this scheme Piaget believes that infants develop their primary circular reactions such as sucking, staring, listening, ad grasping objects during the first six months. From 6-12 months Piaget has called this stage the secondary circular reactions. This is where the infant is more aware of objects and people. The infant will also respond to the object or person.

Answer
Which I agree with and why? I believe that all three have truth to them and all are valid. As a general rule I tend to agree more with Piaget's theories (for infants as well as older children). His theory seems to be the most balanced and insightful with out trying to impose any other theory on top of it. Like I said, though, I do believe that all three views contain truth.

Freud is correct that too much or too little gratification can lead to an immature or passive personality, and that the id is the primary driving force for an infant. Freud is almost always, especially in this case, incorrect about a development of body image and the focus of the child being just on gratification. Since all of Freud's theories stem from an idea of gratification, though, it makes sense for him that he says this.

Erickson is correct that infants can and do experience trust and mistrust. Mistrust also occurs, however, when an infant's needs are not met (example: feeding on a schedule instead of demand, CIO).

Piaget's theory is focused primarily on fact, not in interpreting those facts, and he is correct.

How to safely clean plastic and electric children's toys?

Carolyn L

I have some old, gently used toys that I used to play with from my attic. I want to use them with the kids I will be working with in First Steps, but I would like to clean them first to get the dust and germs off. What is a safe way to clean them? I will be working with infants and toddlers, so I don't want anything that may harm them. What products should I use to make these items safe and clean? Some are electronic (battery-operated, make noises, etc.) and others are plastic.

Answer
For plastic toys I tend to use clorox wipes. If you think that is to strong you can always then wipe them down with a damp cloth or toweling. You'll want to keep liquid away from any speaker if the toy has one. You either clean carefully around it or disassemble the toy (if possible) and clean the outer shell.

What is the best way to clean soft baby toys?

J.M.

Just wondering, what do you find is the best way to clean those soft cloth baby toys that have crinkles or noise makers inside, so you can't put them in the washing machine?

Answer
I used to work in an infant room in a daycare center and DHS regulations had us spray the toys with diluted bleach...take a clean spray bottle and fill it full of water then add one table spoon of bleach to it. Spray the toys over the sink and let air dry. If there are stains on them you are trying to remove, you can simply take a little bit of laundry detergent and rub it on the stain and then rinse it.

toys for infants?

Q. I went to target today to find a toy for my 5 week old, but I dont know what kind of toy to get her. I know they say to get ones that are black and white and maybe red. I thought about getting her the floor gyms but they are $30-50, would it be good to get it for her now or should I wait until shes a little bit older? I just feel like shes bored.. i know i know dumb feeling....
another weird thing that just came to me-do you think babys are affraid of the dark? I know that they where in the dark for 9 months but now that they are out in the real world could it happen? I have noticed that when she is fussy at night and shes laying on my chest she wines a little bit but when i put on our light on low she falls asleep pretty fast.. so am I crazy or could she be affraid of the dark??

Answer
The floor gyms are actually better now then later. The reasoning for this is that once they start moving around they won't use it as much, I started using one when she was a month old and had her do her "tummy time" on it and what not. Other toys or things to buy that I would recommend is soft books because it is an easy way for you to interact with her but she can also play with it on her own. Anything else like the soft blocks, or soft rattles, etc. Babies at this age don't actually play with too much but if you want to have these things around for when she does its easier than running out and buying it all at once.

As for being scared of the dark, my daughter is just over a year now and still sleeps with a soft light on in the hall outside of her room. she never slept in the complete dark without crying!

What is normal behavior for a 9 month old infant girl?

Q. My daughter just turned 9 months and she likes to throw tantrums and cling on to my legs especially when i am cleaning, she doesn't like to eat her baby food, she always wants what I have. She is constantly putting EVERYTHING in her mouth and loves to play with my keys, she pushes all her toys around on the floor including my cell phone. She doesn't want to play with her toys only what I have and she wakes up about 5 times a night and won't go back to sleep unless she gets her bottle. I am trying to ween her off the bottle like pediatricians have told me but she won't have it. After reading some of the developmental skills of other 9 month old infants I am scared that she might be slower than her peers. I am a young new mommy and am worried about my angel.
Would you suggest any books on the sleeping portion? I am relieved to know that she is a normal little girl :) I just hope that her behavior improves and soon!!!

Answer
you daughter doesnt sound slow except the waking up i know to get my daughter out of that i started using the cry it out so she would learn to self sooth and it has worked great she sleeps through the night every night and has since about 6 months and slept through almost every night since 4 months i know i no longer rock her to sleep though i stopped that at 6 months because i would rock her till she was out and the second i went to place her down she would wake so i would have to redo it all over. as for the bottle my daughter was having a tough time with the cups but i finally have one that works for her its kinda like the take and toss by first year only its made by munchkin its called the twist tight it has a really easy to drink from cover since it has no valves and it is the only cup my daughter can drink from it can leak though but i dont worry about a few drops cause it doesnt pour out or anything.

walmart sells those cups mixed in with the Disney/ nick jr cups they are like $4 for 3 of them but you have to read the package closey cause i know the walmart near me only has them with dora and spongbob the rest are different and dont work the same.

What are the changes in the baby 0-6 months?

irena_binj

newborn & baby
changes of the perimeter of the head
changes of the weight
and all the similar things

Answer
Infants cannot be "spoiled" if they are held too much. Babies need constant, loving and tender touches to build self-confidence, trust and communication. Loving touches like holding, cradling, hugs, kisses and gentle tickles are important to a babyâs development.

Talk to your baby a lot. Talk in complete sentences â even as you carry out your daily routine. Tell him about the weather or what youâre doing at the moment. Talk and describe things to him as you get dressed, drive or go shopping. When you talk, he learns the rhythms of language and words and the sound of your voice.

Itâs never too early to begin reading to your baby. Starting when she is a newborn, make reading an everyday experience. Read simple childrenâs stories or make up a story as you look at a picture book. If you are reading a book or newspaper, read it aloud so your baby can begin to hear the rhythm and pattern of language.

A babyâs vision is the first thing to develop. Give her lots of things to look at. Safely hang things above her crib such as paper plates - draw black and white patterns as well primary colors like red, yellow and blue on the plates. Hold an object 10 to 12 inches from her face and slowly move it back and forth. As she tries to follow your movement, she will build eye coordination and neck muscles.

Every time you change a diaper, sing a song or talk to baby. Gently tickle his tummy and feet, make bike-riding motions with his legs. Make eye contact and recite nursery rhymes or make up silly songs. Make the most of diaper changing â your baby is a captive audience!

Make sure your baby has "noisy" toys so she can hear different sounds. Make a rattle by putting a few beans in a tightly sealed plastic container. Securely sew small bells to her socks, booties or shoes. Always stay close and play with your baby when she uses toys to make sure she doesnât remove or swallow small parts.

Play "Peek-a-Boo" and "This Little Piggy" for as long as your baby laughs and enjoys the games. When he turns his head away, heâs had enough for now. Give him time to rest before the next play. For "This Little Piggy," gently wiggle each toe, starting with the big toe, as you say each line of the rhyme: "This little piggy went to market; this little piggy stayed home; this little piggy had roast beef; this little piggy had none; and this little piggy cried âwee, wee, weeâ all the way home!"

Make sounds that your baby can imitate. Repeat them and encourage her to make the sounds like you do.

Use bath time for learning fun. For small babies, float brightly colored sponges in the water. Cut new new household sponges in the shape of fish. Make up silly songs about the bath tub fish.

When taking baby outside for a walk, talk about what you see. Describe the green grass, sounds of birds, texture of bark and everything you can see, hear, touch or smell.

Smile at your baby as much as you can. Smiling at him will teach him to smile in return and sends a positive, approving message. Approval can also come from gentle hugs and pats.

When your baby makes noises at you, treat them as conversation. Talk back. Your response will help teach your baby how to relate to other people and starts to teach the basics of conversation.

Repeat, repeat and repeat again. Repetition helps all babies and toddlers form a strong foundation for learning and good behavior. Donât feel you always have to have a new story, new song or new activity. Children learn from repeated experiences.

Help your baby learn from gently experiencing different textures and temperatures. Guide babyâs hand to feel a soft, furry plush toy; hard, smooth plastic; cold ice; warm toast or rough carpet. Itâs important to describe what baby is feeling as she touches. Be careful that textures or temperatures are clean and safe and wonât hurt little hands.

Babies can be fascinated by mirrors. Hold your baby close to a mirror so he can see himself. Point out his eyes, nose, mouth and ears. Play pat-a-cake or other games so he can watch himself in action.

Help your babyâs physical activity through gentle pulls and pushes. Place your hand on the bottoms of babyâs feet so he can push against them. Gently bicycle his legs and move his arms. Clap his hands or move his feet to the beat of different kinds of music.

It is never too early for a baby to experience all kinds of music. Starting when sheâs newborn, let your baby hear music every day. Music from other world cultures as well as classical, jazz and popular music can come from the radio, tape or CD player, live performances or just you singing or humming. Make sure music is not too loud for little ears.

I am going basics shopping tomorrow and I am making my list ?

Q. I know to put down bottles and clothes binkies and stuff like that but ?? I am a stumped on what else to get our baby boy ??? Like any toys or anything ????What toys will a baby 0-12 months really play with ???A swing any one got any swings they really like and want ot suggest ??? How about car seats ??? .We already have clothes and stuff we are just looking for the big stuff that my husband will have to put together .Any thing I am missing ??
Any one have astroller they awant to suggest that would be wonderful!!

Answer
A swing - get one that has different speeds, and possibly music. The classical music on my son's swing always put him to sleep

Bouncy Seat - some babies love them, some hate them

Play Mat

In the toy section just look for toys that are 0-6 months

Rattles - I like the soft fabric ones so they can't hurt themselves

Car seat - do you want an infant carrier or a convertible? Do research on these before registering for them. Check out the Consumer Reports page so you can find safety ratings.

If you want an infant carrier I suggest getting a travel system, comes with the infant carrier, base and stroller.

Do you have a bassinett, crib, changing table, pack and play?

How often do you girls masturbate?

Brian F

1. how often did you do it as a teenager
2. what do you fantasize about when you do it
3. do you use toys/foreign objects or just fingers and lube
4. have you ever been caught

Answer
Infants masturbate (often to orgasm if they do it at all and - rarely - even during the last week or two before they're born)... by the age of 12, almost 1/3 of all girls have been masturbating to orgasm at least occasionally for half their lives or more... at age 15 it's 2/3 of them who are doing it regularly (many of those are doing it more than once a day)... by the age of 20, more than 80% of women are doing the same - regardless of whether they've ever had intercourse. Even very old women do it... some of them daily or more.

The rest of your question doesn't merit an answer.

Infant Teething right?

Kelli - Mo

My little four-month old has two white lumps on his lower gums and his gums are slightly swollen. Obviously I believe he's getting in his first little teeth. He's been screaming, drooling, has a ever so slight fever, has been chewing on his hands (and everyone else's hands he comes in contact with), etc. This sounds like teething, right?

So I've tried frozen bananas in a mesh feeder, teething tablets, cold water, and teething toys. Nothing has really seemed to help much. Any other ideas to help relieve pain a little? And has anyone else has children get teeth this young?

Thanks in advance!
I'm allergic to tylenol (I know, sucks right?). So we're not allowed to give him acetaminophen until he's more than 1 year old - just in case he's allergic as well.

Answer
My son is 5 months old and just got his bottom tooth. He has been teething for the past two months tho. It could be months from now until your little one's tooth actually breaks through. The only difference I noticed when it was actually about to break through was diarhhea. You can try a cold, frozen washcloth or towel. When my son was in a lot of pain, mostly at night when lying down when he couldnt get comfortable, I would give him tylenol...not all the time...only when it got really bad, for his sake. but you just have to ride it out, keep trying everything and if nothing works tylenol is the last resort. The first tooth is always the worst!

old methods of easing teething pains for infants?

Q. there is an over the counter drug that used to be recommended for teething babies that would numb the mouth and gums. i can't remember teh name of it but it was recommended up until sometime in the 80s. ideas?

Answer
Any pressure on the gums will help. The wet cloth works well, as do teething toys. I used a big thick carrot that my daughter chewed on. It was thick enough that she couldn't break pieces off, and cold and smooth.

My own mother used paregoric, and didn't understand why I didn't use it. It's an opium derivative. I wouldn't use ora-gel or whiskey, either.

How do you help your infant learn to self soothe?

gc525

Answer
When my son showed interested in his fish crib toy, we made it his sleep soother.

Sometimes it can be a gradual process. Just dont try to rush it or it will never work.

they way we did it was:

put him to sleep like we normally did. After putting him down, we turned on the fish ( its the ocean wonder one) for a few cycles during the night.
the next night, we put him now asleep but still awake a bit and did it again.
the third night we put him down as he was falling asleep and turned it on. he put himself right to sleep.

now we just put him down when he starts to try and snuggle into my arm and he watches it for a bit then goes to sleep. we do the same for naptime. worked very well and took only a week.

good luck!

Toys for infant?

cj2004

I need some ideas on toys for my son who is 4 1/2 months old. I stay at home with him and he gets lots of attention. But there are moments I need to do something. Like right now I've been trying to get ready to go to the store and he's just whining. He's in his exersaucer with a baby video in. Nothing keeps his attention for any length of time, even a few minutes. I know part of it is his age. Is there anything that has worked for anyone or am I just going to have to deal until he learns to play better with age (and when does that happen)?

Answer
Get the Baby Einstein Baby Mozart, Beethoven, etc. DVD or videos. My daughter is now 8 months, and she STILL will sit there for at least an hour and watch the pictures and listen to the music. It's AMAZING how much she loves it.

Also, LAMAZE toys are terrific, especially for children your sons age that are starting to play with toys more with their hands. They are very colorful, and normally make some sort of noise. You can get them at places like Babies R Us, Kohls, Toys R Us, etc.

Also, I got a vibrating rocker chair from Fischer Price that has a detachable toy arch. It has a cow/farm theme. She has loved that chair pretty much since birth. She naps in it, plays in it, and it's wonderful!!!

Finally, anything with a mirror in it. Look for activing chairs or gyms that have mirrored things on them. My baby now likes to have conversations with herself! lol!

Good luck!

how do i entertain an infant while traveling by bus?

DOROTHY L

My daughter is 6 months old and we'll be moving to my home state by bus in a few weeks. It's a 36 hour trip with 4 transfers. How do i keep her entertained when she's awake? Also how do i keep her from getting too fussy as she'll be traveling mostly in her car seat? Thanks. Please keep in mind that baggage space will be limited. Also last question, how do i keep water warm for that long, or heat bottles without electricity? Thanks.

Answer
Pack five or six new toys that she has never seen before, look out for small things like toy mobile phone, board/fabric baby books, rattles, chew toys and soft animals (this way you wont need much space to pack them. If you ration them...say one every two hours, the excitement should last a while. mabye you could wrap them like gifts! You can play games like peek a boo and this little piggy and even spend some time looking out the window together and pointing out objects.
If you have plenty of money for the trip, you could invest in a portable dvd player and some sesame street or brainy baby dvds.

As far as your bottles go, heat them up really hot and put them in an insulated cooler bag or wrap them in a towel, take one out about 45 minutes b4 babys feed to cool down a bit before giving them to baby.

Traveling with Infant?

Mommy To 3

I am flying friday for the first time for both me and my infant son who is 6 months any suggestions or Advice welcome. Thanks everyone.

Answer
Either nurse or give him a bottle for take off and landing. It will stop his ears from popping. If he gets fussy, get up and walk him up & down the aisle. People will be a lot less annoyed by you walking up and down and letting them see a beautiful baby than by a child screaming. Have lots of soft QUIET toys. They get bored with the same one eventually, so have a few they can switch around. Unless he stinks, try to avoid changing a diaper on the plane. There is really no place to do it, and holding him in your lap while you sit on the toilet in the tiny stall is just not fun.

My oldest was 4 months old the first time he flew, and it was a great trip. Good luck.

Traveling with an infant?

KS

Me and my 7 month old are traveling by plane to California from Texas, unfortunately she has just started teething as well any tips on how to make the trip as enjoyable as possible for both of us?

Answer
Just bring her favorite toy and snacks. When actually on the airplane...you just have to keep her entertained as long as possible.

My son usually fell asleep on each plane ride. But there were a couple rides where he just wanted to not be held and get into everything. Ugh!

We fly all the time. We actually did when my son was 7 months as well. That trip he slept all 4 plane rides.

Good luck!

My 1 year old wakes up at 4 am and screams, and he won't stop until we get him. How can I make it stop.?

Wardinger

Answer
Did GSU *REALLY* just call your child a pet? Your child is not a pet. Don't follow that advice and treat it like one. How insulting!

Don't leave your child alone when they are screaming at night. The reason the child might stop is because they have lost trust in you. Why would you want that?

The first stage of Erikson's theory on development is "Trust vs. Mistrust." The infant and toddler stages are a time for the child to realize that, when they need you the most, you are going to be there for them. If you loose that developmental stage at this point, it will carry through for the rest of their lives.

Let me say that again - If you loose that developmental stage at this point, it will carry through for the rest of their lives.

What kind of toys does your child have in his crib? A stuffed animal and a toy similar to these:

http://www.fisher-price.com/fp.aspx?st=2011&e=detail&selcat=bgtoys&pid=34168

may help him if he wakes up. He may be able to keep himself occupied and not become as afraid.

If you wear perfume, try lightly scenting a blanket with it and leaving it in his crib. Smell is the strongest association senses. That may help him quite a bit.

Does he have any lighting or is the room pitch black? Try a night light as this may help him feel more comfortable.

Remember that, at this age, if a child cannot see you, they might think you are no longer there. They do not necessarily have a concept yet that if you're not in their vision or sight of any of the other senses, you still exist. He is crying out of fear sometimes that he is alone. Give him the reassurance every time that you are there when you hear him. It is a LOT!!! of work, but the payoff is there in knowing you are doing what is best for your child.

I hope the other suggestions help some.

Matt

Are you going to circumcise your baby boy?

Proud Momm

Why or why not?

Answer
No national or international medical association recommends routine circumcision.

No. It is a cosmetic surgery, medically unnecessary. It is extremely painful (see the video link at the end of my message). Genital Integriy, Intact Genitals, Rights to an Intact Body are for all.

If you are religious, "God Designed. Mother Approved. Revision is Circumcision"

Every baby boy on the planet is born with a foreskin and yet very few have them removed. The foreskin is a perfectly normal natural body part.

It is illegal to circumcise baby girls. Would you be asking this question if your baby is a girl? The answer is probably no. So, the answer to would "I amputate normal healthy body parts of my baby boy,at the risk of death, perform cosmetic elective surgery on my perfect newborn?" The answer is no.

Doctors tell you the amputated Lie when it comes to Circumcision. I beg you to learn the WHOLE TRUTH.

Every YEAR, more than 100 babies die from Circumcision. If this was a product, a toy, a crib, stroller, bottle for sale, on the market, for babies, it would have been recalled long ago.

Here is a video made by doctors for doctors on circumcision.
http://www.drmomma.org/2011/01/neonatal-circumcision-video-for.html

Here is a another link containing the actual surgical procedures of circumcision
http://www.drmomma.org/2009/08/plastibell-infant-circumcision.html

www.NoCirc.org

â¢No national or international medical association recommends routine circumcision.

An infant car seat travel question please?

Athena

My son and I are traveling overseas in January to visit my sick mom. He'll be 5 months old. It's going to be just the baby and me from beginning till end. Since it's just the 2 of us, I'm taking my FAA approved car seat and stroller with me. I was wondering if anyone else has traveled this way and if you could give me advice. I'm already aware of the fact that I need to be there earlier than normal but will the stewardesses be mad if I book the seat next to me? Are they helpful? Is it hard to put the seat in place? What about bathroom brakes? Where do you change the baby? Can I take the CAN of formula or does it have to be in a bottle already mixed (I'll be breastfeeding but I'd like to have it with me just in case)? and things like that. I've traveled this route more times than I can count but never with a baby so any advice would be very welcome!
Thank you in advance!
I'm asking the question in this category because more mothers are likely to read it and respond! :)

Answer
Definitely book the seat next to you--it will give you SO much more space. You will get there early and you can just buckle his car seat right into the seat next to you just like you would do a lap belt install in a regular car. It works great! If you didn't do this and you hit turbulence during the flight, your baby would become a projectile, not only becoming injured himself, but injuring you and the other passengers. Not to mention, checking the carseat with luggage can mean a badly damaged carseat.

You'll take the stroller and carseat right to the gate and you'll check the stroller at the gate when the attendants get there and you'll carry him on in his car seat. They'll have the stroller waiting for you at the other end of your destination.

As for the canned formula, you'll have to ask the airline--each one has different regulations. That said, most say it's ok so long as it is completely sealed and you just buy bottled water once you are through security. If it needs warming, the flight attendants are usually more than happy to warm it for you.

Make sure to bring a few toys for him and a pacifier for take off and landing--or make sure he's feeding during those times. And, as for changes, many planes these days do have a spot for changing children. If your plane does not, either plan on changing him on your seat or the floor space in front of the seats which is why it's imperative that you choose the window seats not the middle section of the plane. Just bring a changing pad. If your baby has a poopy diaper, head for the bathroom and lay the pad on the toilet seat in there and work fast, or ask the flight attendants for a suggestion. They may let you change him in their area on the floor.

Car seats in a Audi Q7?

Elisa

Hi :)

I know this might be a little wierd ,but i'm doing some research
And i was wondering what recommendations you have as far as car seats.

The car is a Audi Q7 , and the children are 30 months (2.5 years) , 15 months and a newborn.

Answer
This is a lot of information, so please bear with me.

First thing you need to know is that it is very possible to fit three car seats across in the backseat as a lot of parents have done them: http://www.car-seat.org/showthread.php?t=33226

But each child seat needs to be independently installed. This means that a car seat cannot rely on another car seat to stay tight. To ensure that each child seat is successfully installed, install the center seat first. Check the center seat's installation. Then install the side seats right next to it. Take out the center seat. Then check the side seat's installation. A car seat is properly installed when it moves less than 1 inch side to side and front to back at the belt path.

The narrowest car seat on the market is the Diono Radian. The R100 model can be found on sale for about $210 on amazon. I realize that this is costly, especially when having mulitple children, but it is cheaper than a new and bigger vehicle. The R100 model goes up to 40 lbs rear facing and 65 lbs forward facing and has about 17 1/2" top harness slots. This means most kids can ride rear facing to age 3 to 4 in this seat and 5 to 7 forward facing. It will be a child's last harnessed car seat, so it is indeed worth the money if it can be successfully installed in your vehicle. This seat takes up a lot of front to back space when installed at a 45 degree angle. The 45 degree angle is needed for a newborn; however, for your 15 month old and 30 month old, you can use the angle adjuster. This makes the car seat more upright: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZcPh2ORw9LY

Here is more about the Diono Radian: http://carseatblog.com/14805/diono-radian-rxt/

Are you looking for an infant car seat or a convertible car seat for your newborn? If you are going with an infant car seat, I would look into the Chicco KeyFit (22 or 30 model) has a narrow base. It generally works well in the center for fitting three car seats across. I would get this for your newborn. Here is more about this car seat: http://carseatblog.com/5364/chicco-keyfit-30-review-infant-carseat-nirvana/

If you are looking for a convertible, I'd go with the Cosco Scenera based on affordability. The bottom most harness straps are low meaning that it will fit newborns well and it is $40; it is 17" wide. It will be outgrown faster than other convertibles (around age 3), but it will help with your situation.

The Safety 1st Guide 65 can be used by either your 15 month old rear facing or by your 30 month old rear/ forward facing, but it will not fit a newborn as the bottom most harness slots are too high.

I would try and see if a Diono Radian is available at your Toys R Us. Toys R Us will usually let you try out the display model. Ensure that you use the rear facing boot while rear facing as it will change the angle of a rear facing installation. Remember that some car seats don't may install well in one seating position and install terribly in another seating position. This means to try out the Radian both rear facing and forward facing in the center seating position and in the outboard seating position.

Here are some tips on putting three car seats across:
-Install with the vehicle's seat belt as it gives you more room than with using the lower anchors
-Get behind rear facing car seat and push your stomach into it at the same time while tightening the seat belt (this can be difficult when your pregnant).
-For a forward facing car seat, put one knee in the seat while tightening the seat belt
-With installed with the seat belt, you can try to "scoot" a car seat closer to the door. The seat still needs to be successfully installed.
-Try different combination of car seats
-Try the same seats rear and forward facing (if your 30 month old is forward facing)

For example, here are some combinations you can try from driver, center, passenger:
-Chicco KeyFit, rear facing Diono Radian, rear facing Diono Radian
-rear facing Diono Radian, Chicco KeyFit, rear facing Diono Radian
-forward facing Diono Radian, Chicco KeyFit, rear facing Diono Radian
-forward facing Diono Radian, rear facing Diono Radian, Chicco KeyFit
-rear facing Diono Radian, Forward facing Guide 65, Chicco KeyFit 30

These are just examples, go out and try out different combinations in your vehicle.

Another option, which I usually don't recommend is having your 2 1/2 wear a vest while in the car. The Ride Safer Travel Vest is as safe as a forward facing car seat; this is a "wearable" car seat and takes up as much space as the child. It needs a lap belt and a top tether anchor or a lap/shoulder seat belt. Ride Safer also publishes their head excursion results. Here is their website: http://safetrafficsystem.com/ver4/

The minimum age for the vest is age 3 though.

Do you look on the back of the package to find out where it was made before buying it? Do you buy made China?

Fedup Vete

The last question was suppose to be, "Do you buy stuff "Made in China" or do you try to find something else to take the place of it."

How about infant toys? Do you return it if it says China on it?

Answer
I look to make sure. Especially if Im giving the toy to a baby or toddler. They seem to chew on everything. Im checking chocolates and candy now too.

what toys do people buy?

k

I really don't want anything made from china, I am too nervous with all the recalls. I even swtiched my bottles to the playtex nursers original because they are made in the usa. The cute ones with designs are made in china. :-( Everything is made in china. I am just looking for rattles or bathtub toys, things for an infant. I don't know if I am overreacting. Anyone else concerned with all the toys being recalled? I went into babies r us and couldn't find one toy for an infant that wasn't made in china...
"no need to show off"....show off what? I use rattles to play with my baby. Have you ever distracted a crying baby with a toy that makes noise?? I'm not looking to spend lots of money, just toys that are safe.

Answer
I have also looked into this same topic. Here is an interesting article that AOL had on their welcome screen tonight.
http://www.bloggingstocks.com/2007/09/19/made-in-the-u-s-a-what-products-are-still-made-in-america/

Pretty sad list though.

I am now using dr. browns which i believe are made in england. But I could be wrong.

I also agree that it is very hard to find anything made in america for babies, but you just have to check and stay up to day with the recalls.

What is the setup of a toy store?

htx_281 (T

Like what do you notice in the setup according to gender.

Answer
In the toy store I work at we have girls on the left and boys on the right. Lego lives right down the back wall. and stuff for infants is usually more toward the front. as mothers with push chairs don't want to have to find their way through the store with a push chair. Toys that are very "in" are at the front and to the left as most people when entering any store turn to the left straight away. Also, like milk in a grocery store, toys that people often want like monopoly are right down the back so people have to walk past everything else to get to it. Then there is a bigger chance of them buying other stuff.

Has anyone ever seen this infant toy?

A_Cullen

I saw an infant toy in a magazine while I was pregnant and I have never been able to find it in stores. It wasn't a jumper, walker, Jumparoo, Exersaucer, or anything like that.

It acually reminded me of the leg press machine in the gym where you lay back and push up and down with your legs except the baby is upright in a seat and they can push the seat up and down using their leg muscles.

My baby loves to use his legs and I would really like to find this product but I've searched everywhere and cannot find it. Has anyone ever seen this toy?

Whats A Brony??????????

Karen

I heard people call people bronys on so many places (omegle.com, school, etc) and I really want to find out what it is so if you know please tell me. The person with the most and best answer wins!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Answer
Definition: A person who is outside of the targeted demographic who likes the show My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic.

Here is a little history.

1980: Started out as a toy line called My Pretty Pony. Was eventually bought by Hasbro.

1981: Generation 1 of My Little Pony. Some films and took place in a fantasy setting. There was also a film where the setting was in a modern city. A standard girl's show at the time.

1990s: Generation 2 didn't have a dedicated TV series or films but only had a toy line (although some consider the TV series near the end of G1's time to be part of G2)

2003: Generation 3 starts. The absolute epitome of what is "girly" in a stereotypical definition. Everything was girly, plot was absolutely horrible, and was definitely meant for girls who were of a very young age. Art direction wasn't very good either.

2009: Hasbro decided to rehash the Generation 3 characters and had some design changes. This was called Generatioin 3.5. Just like Generation 3, this was the epitome of pain and misery.

Late 2009: Hasbro decided to create a new version called newborn cuties. Animation was an abomination, characters were an abomination, nonexistent plot, and would lower your IQ. If Generation 3.5 was considered pain and misery, then I don't know what to call this one.

(Generation 3, 3.5, and newborn cuties are all considered to be the worst of all My Little Pony incarnations).

THEN...........

Hasbro and Discovery Kids eventually formed a joint venture television channel called THE HUB. Hasbro wanted to capitalize on the franchises they've owned (such as Strawberry Shortcake, Transformers, and My Little Pony).

When developing the fourth generation of My Little Pony, Hasbro confronted Lauren Faust and asked her what she could do with the franchise. Lauren Faust is known for working on The Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home for Imaginary Friends.

They were able to get very respected people of the cartoon industry such as Daniel Ingram (music) and animators who have worked on Samurai Jack and a bunch of others. There are also very highly talented voice actors in the show such as Tara Strong and Tabitha St. Germaine. If anything, the 4th generation of My Little Pony has a very large production value.

On October 2010, Hasbro launched the pilot episodes of the 4th generation called "My Little Pony: Friendship is Magic." Many reviews praised the show saying that the show was actually very enjoyable to watch for the entire family. Of course, there were those such as the review by AMID that said seeing names such as Lauren Faust in the credits was a white flag of defeat. He says how disappointing it is to see such people in the credits because he says cartoons have become nothing more than marketing ploys to sell toys. This caught the attention of the cartoon board of 4chan. Most made image macros as a joke of MLP, but as some people watched a few episodes, some actually really liked it.

And so, from the depths of 4chan, Bronies (bro+pony) were born.

Here is some information regarding this fandom.

Equestria Daily, the main website for pony related news has over 240,000,000 views since its creation in January 2011.
Bronycon last summer had over 4000 attendees.
Everyday, there are meetups all around the world (listed in the nightly roundups of Equestria Daily).
Clinton was quizzed on MLP facts, Stephen Colbert had a shoutout to us, Conan O'Brien ponified himself and posted the picture on his twitter, Howard Stern talked about us (although in a bad way), a MLP shoutout is given in the Borderlands 2 ending credits, and Jetblue Airlines has even posted ponies on their twitter (and has created an original character with Bronies).
We have also been on Fox news, CBS, CNN, Yahoo news, local news outlets around the world, and in the official Top Gear Magazine!!!
There are over 300,000 images of MLP on DeviantArt alone.
John De Lancie, the voice actor of Discord and the actor for Q from Star Trek, is going to create an official documentary about bronies. They had a kickstarter campaign aiming for $60,000 but instead got $320,000 from the brony community.

Unlike other fandoms, Bronies are known for the content we produce such as music, art and fanfiction. FIMFICTION (pony fanfiction) has over 30,000 fanfiction. The longest pony fanfiction is over 608,000 words long (Harry Potter Deathly Hallows is 169,000 words long). Also, there is a fanfic called Past Sins that is going to be printed in physical hard cover copies (unfortunately the sign ups are over).

Also, if you want to have further information about the show and the community, I'd recommend you watch Saberspark's "Balld of the Brony" on youtube.

Hopefully you have a better understanding of Bronies and maybe you'll come to enjoy the show as well!

How do I deal with people hyper-genderizing about my baby?

Crane

I recently attended a party with my five month old daughter, and the other guests could not stop talking about what an extreme "girl" she was. It was fine at first - I mean, yes, she IS a girl - but it got to the point where no one was mentioning anything else. "What a girl she is! No one would mistake her for a boy! Look at those petite shoulders! Look at that face!" This went on and on. Worse, when she started touching the arm of another baby - a boy, who didn't mind, nor did his mother - others started saying, "What a forward female! Watch out for her!" I am confident that my daughter was NOT touching the boy out of any romantic feeling; she shows similar interest in little girls.

I just smiled through most of this, occasionally acknowledging, "Yes, she is a girl," but as she gets older, I don't want her to think that her primary characteristic is that of being a stereotypical "girl." How could I defuse this in future situations?

Answer
I know exactly what you mean!

I don't have any biological children, but hyper-gendered speech and actions to the children I care for (as a foster carer) is so strong at times that I dress all the newborns and small babies in neutral clothes and just say "I can't say the gender...". (We have had to hide children's gender before if they had a parent who was violent and prone to tracking their children down).

You could start with more neutral clothing.

What all your friends are doing is- unknowingly- reinforcing the stereotypes of femininity that society has taught us. There's not much to do about it, except maybe dressing your girl in the "boy's" clothes occasionally (or at least around these people) and giving her a mix of "boy" and "girl" toys. Which isn't a bad idea anyway.

Here's some common misconceptions about gender-neutral parenting, maybe it'll give you some ideas.

Traveling by plane with infant?

xtrue

I am looking for plane tickets for my husband, infant, and I. I am not sure what it means by infant in lap or infant in seat. Which one is better? We are from Fresno, Ca traveling to St. Paul, MN. When we go on our trip baby will be 2 months old.

Answer
Basically the difference is In a seat they get their own seat in lap means you hold the baby for the duration of the flight.

In my opinion I do think that in a seat is much better for you and the baby for the flight since you dont have to hold him/her for the entire flight (your arms can get a little tired) but with the lap seat its cheaper since you dont have to buy a hole other ticket.

If you do decide to go with the lap seat make sure u have a sling for the baby (with or without the lap seat actually it makes it alot easier to walk around airport) the sling will help with actually holding her so its not so stressful on your arms and your arms wont get that tired (not to mention they sleep real easy in one) you cannot wear the sling during take off and landing but during the flight its a life saver.

I've never actually used a regular seat yet but i imagine i will soon. But I heard you can bring a car seat and stuff but im not entirely sure...

Some addition tips.
Brings some toys for him/her to play with
and make sure shes sucking on something or feeding during take off and landing (it helps with the ear poping)
Hope This Helps
HAVE A GREAT FLIGHT

Flying with an infant on a plane!?

Alyssa

My husband and I are going on a 3 hr flight up north for vacation this summer and our daughter will be 7 months old at the time. Any advice, suggestions, ideas to make flying easier? She is a breastfed baby and I'm hoping she'll nursing during take off and landing to help her ears adjust. Any ideas greatly appreciated!!

Answer
Hi! I travel a lot with my son (and alone at that) so the fact that you're with your husband and will have four arms is wonderful! It will be fine. Try to nurse during take-off and landing or give LO a pacifier. Bring along lots of hand sanitizer and some alcohol wipes for the tray table, and I also like to bring the toys with the suction cups on the bottom to stick on the tray table (they're usually made for the high chair). I don't know if you're doing solids yet, but a hard breadstick might be a good, nonmessy option too. In terms of changing diapers, take LO to the bathroom and there is usually a changing table that drops down above the toilet. It's small so have your husband come with to help. I bring a big garbage bag to line it then stick all the messy stuff inside the bag when I'm done and give to the flight attendant since they don't always want diapers disposed of in the restroom. Check your stroller and carseat at the gate, bring some toys and you'll be fine! Also, you can check with your doc to see if a little benedryl is ok if you're really worried. Have fun!

I wouldn't use ora-gel or whiskey, either.

what should my 8 month old son be doing?

Q. he was born 3 months early and was only 2lbs 14 oz and im not sure what he should be doing he doesnt sit up or crawl yet but he can stand with my help

Answer
Here is some good info

Corrected age is the infant's or child's chronological age minus the amount of weeks or months he or she was born early. For example, if your 1-year-old was born 3 months early, you can expect him or her to look and act like a 9-month-old (corrected age). You may find this figure to be most reassuring when following your child's growth and development for the first 2 years after birth. http://children.webmd.com/tc/premature-infant-looking-ahead-to-the-childhood-years

So your 8 month old should be developing like a 5 month old

During your child's first 2 years of life, he or she will appear to be developmentally behind full-term children of the same age. But you can expect your infant and young child to achieve the same sequence of developmental milestones as any other child

So according to the site above he should be doing the following
* Weight: average gain of 1 to 1 1/4 pounds each month; by 6 months has doubled birthweight
* Height: average growth of 1/2 to 1 inch each month
* Head size: average growth of about 1/2 inch each month

What can my baby do at this age?

This age is very social and babies begin moving in much more purposeful ways. While babies may progress at different rates, the following are some of the common milestones your baby may reach in this age group:

* grasp, Moro, root, and tonic neck reflexes (reflexes normally present in young infants) disappear
* balances head well
* sits with support, back is rounded
* begins to support body with legs when held in standing position
* rolls from back to front and front to back by 6 months
* moves object from one hand to other
* grabs feet and toes when lying on back
* makes "swimming" motions with arms and legs when placed on abdomen
* begins drooling (not always a sign of teething)
* naps two to three times a day, for one to three hours each (on average)
* begins to sleep longer at night (six to eight hours consistently)
* has full color vision, able to see at longer distances

What can my baby say?

It is very exciting for parents to watch their babies become social beings that can interact with others. While every baby develops speech at his/her own rate, the following are some of the common milestones in this age group:

* coos and gurgles when talked to, or in response to toys
* babbles, imitates sounds
* by 6 months, makes single syllable sounds (da, ma, ba)
* laughs
* squeals
* blows bubbles or "raspberries"

What does my baby understand?

A baby's awareness of people and surroundings increases during this time and he/she may begin to interact with persons other than parents. While babies may progress at different rates, the following are some of the common milestones in this age group:

* recognizes familiar things and people
* may hold out arms to be picked up
* begins to learn concept of object permanence (i.e., a partially hidden object under a blanket is still there)
* may show displeasure when object or person goes away
* may recognize his/her own name
* may begin to understand "no"
* begins to understand cause and effect (the sound a toy makes when it is dropped)

How to help increase your baby's development and emotional security:

Consider the following as ways to foster the emotional security of your baby:

* Repeat sounds and smile when your baby makes sounds.
* Laugh with your baby.
* Talk to and imitate your baby during feeding, dressing, changing diapers, and bath time.
* Spend time on the floor playing with your child every day.
* Dance with your baby and do other rhythmic movements.
* Introduce your baby to other children and parents.
* Place safe toys near your baby to encourage reaching and grasping.
* Encourage laughing and play by making funny faces or sounds or blowing on baby's belly and laughing.

My baby now likes to have conversations with herself! lol!

Good luck!
