Could someone recommend infant/toddler toy websites?

LilyBug

I'm looking for companies that sell American made toys. Preferably for infants and toddlers. I've already been to the Melissa and Doug website. I'm just looking for more. Thanks for your help.

Answer
Here's a whole list of them. Not exclusively infants and toddlers

Good toys for Infants or young toddlers?

chic587

I work at a day care center with children
ages 12 months to 18 months.
What are some good toys for a group of children this age.
Ones that do not take batteries.

Thanks for any help!

Answer
I think your doing great by first doing research on the toys. This year I have heard so many toy recalls already and we are not even in the month of December yet. So continue to do research on the toys.

But here's a few I have found that are popular:
* Large building bricks
* Ride-on vehicles
* Push and pull toys - with these two I have seen at Walmart a sturdy wagon type with large, rounded lego type blocks. So the toddler can take the blocks and put in wagon and push it and take them out and put them together and on and on.

What toys would you recommend for 5 months old baby boy?

Jayden was

I want to buy him a present for his 1st Christmas but have no idea. He'll be 5 months 11 days on Christmas day.

Thanks!

Answer
Lamaze baby toys are really highly rated on Amazon.com. http://www.amazon.com/s/ref=bl_sr_baby-products?ie=UTF8&search-alias=baby-products&field-brandtextbin=Lamaze. You'll get lots of great ideas if you use Amazon look under toys and then select birth - 24 months. You may want to sort by Avg. Customer Review

When he's able to stand, my niece and nephew loved the LeapFrog Learn & Groove musical Table that I gave them.

Good luck.

A baby doll question?

C W

My daughter is biracial (white/African American) but she is VERY light skined, she looks like she is white but has a really great tan, I was trying to get her a baby doll that is similar to her color and I found one called the Stella baby doll in beige and one called rosy cheeks baby doll in tan. I was just wondering if anyone has these dolls and which one they liked better or if any others are a good doll that represents a biracial child.

Answer
baby stella in beige has good reviews on amazon.

K's kids Barbara looks biracial also. http://www.amazon.com/Ks-Kids-Barbara-7-5-Doll/dp/B000BNJUAC/ref=sr_1_4?s=toys-and-games&ie=UTF8&qid=1346621722&sr=1-4&keywords=biracial+doll

baby interactive toys?

rosey

What kind of interactive theme based activity centers are available for infants and toddlers? i.e. nursery rhymes, science, math, geography, music,etc... Do babies like this type of product and which would you recommend? Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Answer
I prefer the baby gym made by Selecta. Selecta makes quality wooden toys. They are more expensive, but well worth it! Babies benefit from exploring their environment; themes are not really necessary.

What are the best toys for a 6 month old?

Possibly something to help with learning to crawl.

Answer
In fact if youâre Christmas shopping with a infant in mind, you may find thereâs a boggling number of choices.

In the very early years safety is of special concern. A person wants to select well constructed toys, that are free of any sort of small parts that might potentially detach. Children at this age certainly will put toys in their mouths. Another reason one might also be concerned about the country of origin given the recent spate of tainted toys originating in China.

Toys for the the under one set are often aimed at emerging skills, such as fine and gross motor skills, tactile stimulation, etc.

Babies at 6 months are gaining the ability to sit up. And so toys that they can manipulate on the floor in front of them are attractive.

Babies between 6 and 12 moths of age will also begin to move (creep, crawl, take first steps) so there are many toys aimed at supporting this development too.

A few favorite suggestions:

Melissa & Doug Deluxe Wooden First Vehicles Set
www.amazon.com/Melissa-Doug-Deluxe-Wooden-Vehicles/dp/B000GKY2CQ

Sturdy first vehicles for small children. The size and weight are appropriate for very young children to grasp and carry. I find that many young children will spend endless amount of time pushing a small rolling toy around. These are toys that they are likely to play with for a good long while. I do not know what the country of origin is, Melissa & Doug is a favorite brand - some of their things are made in China, others in other Asian nations such as Vietnam.

Blocks
http://fatbraintoys.com/toy_companies/haba/fantasy_blocks.cfm
(Also available for sale thru various sellers on Amazon.com)

Blocks are also another great âgrow with me toyâ. Even very young children will enjoy a small set of colorful blocks which they can simply pick up and explore. These can be added to as the child grows into more sophisticated pretend and build play. Haba makes some beautifully whimsical blocks that are manufactured in Germany.

Sorters
www.amazon.com

Sorters come in, well, all âsortsâ of sizes, colors, and configurations for young kids. And are often treasured toys for kids between 6 mos and a year and a half or so. They love to place objects inside of something and dump them out again and again. Melissa and Doug make some toys they label as âfill and spillâ with cute themes (bugs in a jug, fishbowl, picnic baskets etc.). Thereâs also the old fashion âshape sortersâ and these come in many âthemesâ these days too. For examples, just try searching for âshape sorterâ or âfill and spillâ on Amazon.com.

If you are concerned about the nation of origin - I will note that FatBrainToys.com is one toy website that allows customers to conduct product searches that include not only age, gender, price, but also the country of origin (and it allows you to exclude China if you so wish).

To Disinfect infant toys, isnt a spraybottle with 2/3 water and 1/3 Bleach WAY too much?

Cosmosis

We bring our 11 Month old daughter to the center here in our area. Apparently they have a buncha kids that have intestinal problems and/or rashes that parents cant explain. Is there any site I can go to to get SOLID info on whether it's from the bleach? Or maybe a way to test if it's from the bleach? I have seen a few disinfecting answers here that say like 2 spoons to a gallon of water. I am kinda worried about my child sucking bleach off the toys with them using 33% bleach.

Answer
Nope, not at all. And just to let you know, more than likely, it's state law. So if you want your daughter in a state certified facility that goes through yearly safety checks and certifications you're going to have to live with it. In CT, we have to use a mix of 50/50 bleach and water. Either there is something else going on in the facility, or they're using MUCH more bleach than they are letting on, because we never had any problems with the children.

What kind of bathtub toys do you have?(for your kids lol)?

~~Daniel's

Just curious...when my son was an infant, I bought all the proper bath tub toys but now he drags in his trucks/cars and anything else that might tickle his fancy at the time. He is 2.
What kind of toys do your kids play with in the tub? And do you disinfect them regularly?(weekly?)

Answer
I just use rubbery duckies :-) I try not to make bath time so stimulating otherwise she will not sleep but play, but if she is in a cranky mood I will encourage her to play with her rubber duckies lol.

Are parents aware of the harmful effects of lots of chemicals found in most plastic?

Stupid Sma

like ''Bisphenol A'' or 'BPA' and other chemicals like phthalates ?

''BPA is controversial because it exerts weak, but detectable, hormone-like properties, raising concerns about its presence in consumer products and foods contained in such products. Starting in 2008, several governments questioned its safety, prompting some retailers to withdraw polycarbonate products. A 2010 report from the United States Food and Drug Administration (FDA) raised further concerns regarding exposure of fetuses, infants, and young children.[1] In September 2010, Canada became the first country to declare BPA a toxic substance.[2][3] In the European Union and Canada, BPA use is banned in baby bottles.[4]''

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bisphenol_A
http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/8361863.stm

Answer
Yup, thus why we only buy wooden toys and we make sure all of our plastic is BPA free, or buy glass/wood products where possible. We use glass baby bottles.

Please help.. My 14 months old daughter is delayed, autism?

Eyecandy77

My 14 months old daughter is delayed in her social skills and fine motor skills. She is not waiving, not clapping, not pointing, not self feeding. She will sometimes show where my eyes are or mouth, when I ask her, and she will look at a picture on the wall when I ask where the picture is. But she rarely pays any attention to me or anyone else. She loves to play with all her toys, but she doesn't do anything repeatedly (like pushing the same button over and over). When I talk to her or ask her something she ignores me, and continues to do what she was doing like playing with her toy or watching tv. When she watches her cartoons and I get in front of her to get her attention she completely ignores me like I'm a see-through ghost. I'm worried sick.. Has anyone had a kid who was delayed in these areas (waiving, paying attention to mommy, pointing etc), and now are older and normal? Or is she for sure has an autism. I've convinced myself that she does and can't stop panicing. I will make an apt with the neurologist tomorrow, and I was told by an Early Intervention program that she is significantly delayed in her social skills and fine motor skills such as picking up small cereal and putting them in her mouth. (she doesn't do that at all). She seems like normal happy baby to me, she loves it when I sing to her, she looks directly at me into my eyes when I sing, or when I do silly games. She loves pikaboo games and runs to me on her walker when I call her all excited. But when I talk to her most of the time ignores me. I would love to hear from someone who went through this and their kid turned out fine. Some words of encouragement also would help :( thank you so much. I am so afraid of what the neurologist would say. It seems like 100% of normal kids do all these things. If I can just find one who didn't do these things and turned out normal, I could breath just a little easier. Thanks again!
About vaccines etc.. We are on dr. Sears vaccine schedules and we haven't even gotten everything she needs. So I really don't think this could be from vaccines we are being very careful about them.

Answer
You are right to be concerned, but don't worry about this until you have done some homework and researched the issue. There is a wonderful web site you can visit to see the symptoms and what is being done to not only help autistic children but what can be done to prevent it.

Go to: www.childhoodshots.com

Mary Tocco has been researching vaccines for 30 years and has a volume of information on this subject. Her daughter, Rene Tocco, is the doctor that has dedicated her practice to AUTISM and that is the web site above. Many of the problems children are having today are a result of what is being done to the children in doctor's offices and the food they are eating and the lack of information on good breast feeding, etc.

Become educated, not indoctrinated.

EDIT: NO child needs ANY vaccine. It is a very well known documented fact that children who do not get vaccinated are far healthier and grow up much more healthy. Believe what you will about vaccines, but those promoting it is relying on indoctrination and distortion of the facts, not educated facts.

EDIT: Here's a wonderful article for you to read to get a better in depth understanding of why vaccines are causing many of the problems your child is experiencing.

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2010/11/01/flu-vaccine-and-its-side-effects.aspx

Dr. Sears is just spreading the poisons over longer time between getting the poison injections. Infants and babies should NOT be receiving these injections at all. Look at the evidence to learn the truth. Pediatricians were invented to inject poisons and nothing more. The well baby visits is just an injection party, nothing more.

If you are still in doubt about this, watch Dr. Maurice Hilleman that was the Number 1 vaccine expert, researcher, and developer of over 40 popular vaccines talk about the "Bargain Basement Technology" vaccines are in this confidential interview:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=edikv0zbAlU

Now watch this video showing the probity of the Bayer Pharmaceutical that makes aspirin for the world and how they view PROFIT over HEALTH:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wg-52mHIjhs&feature=related

Is it no wonder the public has started to reject what these guys are promoting?

Drug companies would have you believe their technology saved the world of disease, but nothing is farther from the truth. Look at this study on small pox that drug companies tell you they eradicated:

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2000/12/31/smallpox-vaccine-part-one.aspx

http://articles.mercola.com/sites/articles/archive/2000/12/31/smallpox-vaccine2.aspx

Babies are being damaged by these corporations that are promoting this farce. BIG MONEY is being made by them. In fact drug companies make 5 times the profit of any U.S. corporation and politicians get a huge amount of this. This is why the recent Health Care Law funnels so much money directly to them. Both Republicans and Democrats are to blame and the public is getting the booby prize. And the worst part is that children are the victims.

good luck to you

Where can I find replacement blocks for a Fisher-Price toy?

natashaier

I recently bought my daughter a Fisher-Price Stack 'n Surprise Blocks Songs 'n Smiles Sillytown. I got it on sale at Toys R Us about a month ago for $25. My husband brought it to his mom's house for our daughter to play with while she stayed over there for a couple hours, and her cousin took all of the pieces to his house and lost them. She now only has 3 blocks left! The cheapest price I found for this toy was $68 on amazon, and all I need is a couple of blocks. I checked ebay, nothing! This toy is completely out of stock everywhere and probably discontinued! Will I be able to find replacement blocks anywhere??

Answer
Yes the set was discontinued in 2010. If you visit the Fisher Price web page for this particular toy, on the right hand side, there will be a shopping cart. Select United States in the drop down menu. http://service.mattel.com/us/product_detail.asp?id=T3174&Ntt=T3174&Pn=1&Brand=Fisher-Price+Infant+Toys&Cat=Stack+'n+Surprise+Blocks

Then on the shopping page, select Baby Gear under Fisher Price. Then select Infant Toys. Then select Other Infant Toys. Then select Stack N Surprise Blocks Peek A Boo Choo Choo. You can purchase replacement blocks that are compatible with all Stack N Surprise toys. They run $9 a set. Hopefully this direct link will work, but if not, I hope my directions above explain how to get there. https://store.mattel.com/CatalogBrowser.aspx?cmd=local&cat=140&sec=9761

I have a doxin and she has a little rubber frog she thinks is her baby! What do i do?

Sasha Brad

I have a 5 year old doxin.... A few months ago I bought her this little rubber frog that squeaks and she is super overprotective of it. Seems like she thinks its her baby. when you grab the rubber frog then she freaks out starts whining loud and then when we give it back she lightly grabs it like she is trying not to hurt it. My boyfriend and I put it up on a shelf and she hurt herself trying to get up there with it. I dont understand why she is doing this. She lays in bed all day with it. She burys it in places that are soft like my bedding or under my pillows. She bites my cat if he gets anywhere close to her. She even carries it to the car when we leave to go places! She doesnt seem happy anymore and she never wants to play! HELP!!!!

Answer
That doesn't sound like she treats it like an infant, it sounds like she's possessive over her favorite toy. That's a bad habit that needs to be nipped in the bud right away. Small breed especially are prone to this - more so since people put off training them properly since they think it's "cute". There's nothing cute about aggression though. She needs to be trained.

Here's a bit on it http://www.thatmutt.com/2010/03/26/how-to-break-a-dogs-possessiveness/ and another you should read http://www.thatmutt.com/2008/12/12/my-dog-thinks-her-toy-is-her-baby/ but there's tons of pages out there for you. Just google "possessive dog"

My niece was born 3 days ago with a twisted foot (looks clubbed) and is doing wonderful...?

ehm... yup

she is breastfeeding and everything...she looks beautiful but is a lil flat faced with squinty eyes.. and has darker skin (hormones?) and really black hair (not in either fam) but the dr. came in on the second day and asked if there was an asian bloodline (no) and they suspected down syndrome.. has anyone experienced.. her tests come back today... there is no one in either family ...

Has anyone had anything like that happen .. work in medical ... could it possibley be something else.. I looked up the signs and I understand but can this be something else or nothing..

she did push for three hours.. and there was a large fluidy mass from the vacuumn..

Answer
Hair color, skin color is not a problem at all, it may change after sometime, and may not. If not some genes must there which dictate that. The main thing is the flat face and twisted foot that you mentioned. You see down syndrome kids not only exhibit behavioral differences but mostly exhibit some bodily defects or notable differences from normal persons at birth itself. This is why doctors recommend not to have kids late because it increases the chances of birth child defects and down syndrome in children by 3%. Genes are the things, which are in the chromosomes, that tell the story of the human body, who its to be built, but after some age aberrations come in human body, because of which kids in late age is not recommended.

My fathers very close friend has a child, a girl who was born when her mom was 35 or so and was detected down syndrome at birth. She has a flat face, somewhat a very big forehead and big popping eyes, which sometimes really scare me (God forgive me I shouldn't say so). She is now 23 years, and does some stuff by herself, like going to the restroom and some other things, does small things like if her mom asks to bring some stuff from the kitchen she does so, brings a glass of water if asked, but becomes very slow, walks very slow then not to drop it. She doesn't understand any normal social human relations or matters. She likes caroms because we always give her the red coin upfront itself to make her happy. Whether we coin or anyone else, all coins go to her. Her mom cries sometimes that what will happen to her if something happens to them. When she was small kid, like even till 6 years or so she used to urinate in her pants, and even get the other things also in her pants. Her mom had a very difficult time making her learn she should go to bathroom, restroom, tell her she is hungry if she feels hungry and every small bit of detail of everything. At the age of 10 she was somewhat ok. By that time she knew alphabets, she could tell alphabets with the help of her mom telling whenever she missed some. That's all she learnt till now.

Down syndrome kids generally don't live long and sometimes when they do live long but become a burden on parents, as they are like inferior to infants at mind all their life. In most cases they develop heart troubles and die. I not speaking bad about them, but I am being practical. When they live long, the parents spend much on them and if they live even after the death of their parents, it becomes a trouble as they won't listen to anyone except their parents. I know this as I used to volunteer work and donate whatever I could to a local school for down syndrome kids, most them who were abandoned and the school needed money to run. One of them was my favorite, a kid (a big kid) who always wore a loose old shirt and an old pant and always used to sit on one side of see-saw and didn't sit with anyone on the other side. If you tried to play on that he would just fall down back as a brick. I got him some good clothes from our home (used ones though) but he never wore them, as the warden who left the school told him once always to wear a shirt and him an old loose shirt. He used to listen to that man who taught him everything. The warden told him to wear a shirt, but the kid always wore only the shirt the warden gave him and nothing else, may be he understood it that way, I don't know.

The tests should reveal the facts. But some observeble characteristics are, if you place them in a cradle and if there is toy or something hanging from the top of it, rather than trying to touch it and pull it, they constantly look at it, and also look at it for hours together, don't cry also during this time, even for hunger. If a bunch of toys/dolls are placed they look constantly at one toy all the time. You can sometimes see a difference at the way they see. Sometimes it may not be oberveble the very first time, but should be kept in constant observation, the way the child plays, is the child active, does the child ever attempt to walk, the way the child sees, is saliva dropping out of the child's mouth constantly and the child just sits and sees somewhere as the saliva is dropping (not in sleep, many children drop saliva in sleep).

I will pray that everything should turn out to be fine. For the foot a plastic surgery or something should be possible, its OK, not a big deal as long as the kid is OK mentally. This is life deciding.

Is this a beautiful crib? (Read Details)?

Scroll all the way down and look at all the other beds....They are so pretty. I love that crib but the price tag is too much..I just wanted to know what you all think.

I only have one child who is 6 years old. I am not wanting to buy this crib, i wanted opinions.

Answer
I have to admit, I actually think it's beautiful, It has the wow factor.

But I would never buy it. I don't know what country you're in, but here in Australia, there's a huge push to very simple, safe cots and bedding including no toys in the cot, no bumpers, no canopy's, because of the risk of SIDS ( sudden infant death syndrome)

That cot would give any midwife a heartattck!

Frist Road Trip?

Amanda

We're going on our first road trip next month with our son, who will be 5 1/2 months. We'll be traveling from Alexandria, VA to Ocala, FL and back in a two week period.

Does anyone have any advice on what to bring/how to pack/places to stop or stay along the way? Any help would be really appreciated!! Thanks so much!!!

Answer
Thanksgiving we travelled from Gulfport, MS to Stafford, VA my baby was 8 months old

-Bring new toys definitely. This will entertain the baby.
-Not all places have changing tables, I found this out so be prepared to change in the car. Buy baby diaper disposal bags. They are the little bags to put dirty diapers in, you can find them at walmart. This helped a lot!
-Are you renting a car.... one thing that helped was that we rented a Yukon and even in my son's infant seat he could see outside. Really nice when passing through SC, NC, and VA in the daytime. It was also fall when we made the trip. It was beautiful.
-One thing that was VERY helpful was bringing a box with things you will need on hand. I put diapers and wipes, formula, water, and bottles, snacks, etc. I put in on the floor where the carseat was. Anytime I needed something I could just grab it as opposed to opening a diaper bag.
-Be prepared to make lots of stops when baby is cranky. A little 10 min walk in a rest area would calm my baby down before getting back in the car.
-When baby is asleep in the car make stops minimal! Your baby might wake up during these stops and will not be happy.

Good Luck & Have Fun!

Worst rated infant toy- poor toy for any newborn baby?

Q. In my Human Development class we have to do a project where we pick one good toy and one poor toy for a newborn baby..I already found a toy with good reviews, but im having trouble finding a toy with bad reviews, or just a poor toy in general..anyone have any ideas?

Answer

i've not really found a toy that has bad reviews because kids will really play with anything. a plastic bag, a plastic bottle....anything they can get their hands on they love. Really, i ust think that a bad toy for a newborn is anything that states it's for newborn, but they can't use it for ages

Carseat Toy?

Q. I've been looking around for something that I can attach to my daughter's carseat that she can play with. Any ideas? If you can can you give me the exact name of the item

Answer
Car seat toys are becoming so popular nowadays that you can find any brand anywhere. Just go to your local store that sells baby supplies, shoot even grocery stores now carry them too, and look at the baby section. You will find so much stuff it might make your head spin....lol! Seriously look at Walmart, Target, wherever, and look in the infant section, do not look in the toy section! You will not find these in the toy section. Good luck choosing the right one!

Rabbit Treats, Toys, and Hay Rack?

Kaze

So my rabbit, Tapi, has been really nice and I want to give him some toys and treats. He gets free time and has his food and water and litter box but I want to make his hours in his cage better for him.

CLOTH TOYS: First off, I have to be careful about what toys I give him because he not only chews it up, he eats it. And he prefers cloth rather than wood and paper based stuff. He chewed a hole in one of âhisâ towel before. Is there a toy out there that is made out of cloth and can be safely eaten by a rabbit? I bought his a rope dog toy and he couldnât fit his mouth around the middle so he just nom at the frayed tassles, which canât be good for him so I took it away. Some people say dog toys are okay but Iâm pretty sure the KONG rubber toys arenât good. I would like something that he would chew on but canât chew into pieces and swallow.

PAPER BASED: I bought him 3 different brands of wooden chew sticks. The first he didnât even look at. The second, he gnawed a stick away in a day. The third, apple branches, was ignored for the first few days then he gnawed off the bark. But there are no wood chips or anything on the floor of his cage because he just eats it, I dunno why. I also crumpled up clean sheets of paper (although sometimes, Iâm tempted to give him my homework, just as an excuse! :P) and he chews the ball of paper for an hour or two then ignores it. I tried folding up paper for him to nibble away at and make âsnowflakesâ but he only ate one big irregular hole on one side of the paper then left it at that. Cardboard tubes are nibbled at and ignored too. So basically, wood and paper âtoysâ are a 1 day fling.

PLASTIC TOYS: I did some research and some websites recommend baby teething rings for rabbits to play with. Well, heâs not really into tinky tinkling sounds; heâs really good at ignoring noises, even from the vacuum cleaner. And he doesnât chew hard plastic but soft plastic will most certainly be swallowed. So plastic toys arenât really for chewing but for mental play. Speaking of which, I got him a parrot toys similar to this: http://www.walmart.com/ip/Lucky-Bird-Small-Treasure-Chest/20557123 It has holes all over where you stuff little blocks of wood into it and the bird has to âattackâ the chest to get it out. I placed a small animal yogurt drop into it and he sniffs at it but doesnât figure out how to get the treat out. It took him a few days to get a treat out by himself but over the weeks, heâs learnt how to nudge it over with his nose until the chest fell to a side and the treat falls out. It keeps him occupied for a few minutes if not hours (depends on how long it takes him and how much he wants it) but one of those treats a day isnât really healthy.

SUPPLIES: Keep in mind that I can only go to Wal-Mart. Petco and Petsmart probably have those toys and stuff but I donât go there very often. The Wal-Mart rabbit toys and treats section is pretty small and just consist of sugary treats, chewing sticks and the occasional wood-branches ball.

FOOD TREATS: So what kind of âtreatâ can be stuffed into that treasure chest that is both healthy but wonât make a mess? Tapiâs a big fan of bananas and I would like to cut off a small piece and stick it in the chest but bananas are smooshy and sticky so it would smear all over the toy but not come out for him to eat. Iâve heard of dried banana chips and other fruit chips. How do you make that at home? What other treats can be made at home that is healthy for rabbits?
People say too many vegetables and fruits have too many sugar and nutrients, which isnât good for a rabbitâs poor digestive system. They also say pellets contain too much fat. When I first got Tapi, he would go through a handful of pellets a day but now (little over a year later), heâs eating two handfuls if not more. I added more hay (since thatâs suppose to be the bulk of his meals) and reduced it to one and a half handful of pellets a day.
And I was also wondering how to make a good hay rack that wonât spill or make too much of a mess but can be easily accessed by a rabbit. He lives in a XL dog kennel (yes, those things make good rabbit cages and are a lot less expensive than rabbit cages in the stores) so I would prefer hanging up a rack or something. Heâs litter boxed trained and I got used to just cleaning out one particular stinky box rather than a whole kennel of bedding. His âbeddingâ is a fleece blanket (one of the few types of cloth he doesnât chew) so sweeping off hay from that can be kinda hard. Currently, his hay is in a cardboard box that he sits in when eating the hay.

So, to sum things upâ¦
What kind of chew toys are at Wal-Mart that can be devoured by the rabbit?
(Name some different types of intellectual toys as well, heâs pretty smart.)
How do you make healthy homemade rabbit treats?
How would you install a hay rack?

Answer
the only fabric that's bunny-safe is fleece - the individual fibers are short enough that it won't cause a blockage if ingested.

have you tried willow? Petsmart sells a willow ball, my bunnies go INSANE for it but ignore any other type of purchased chew toy, including the wood balls that are whiteish colored.

soft plastic is definitely a no-no with bunnies (which includes pretty much all teething toys for infants). as far as plastic toys go, slinkies and hard plastic baby keys are usually big hits. baby links are good, too - you can get a BIG pack of them at Walmart for $4. string them together and hang them from the ceiling in his cage and maybe scatter a few on the floor for him.

I wouldn't feed yogies, by the way, they're really bad for bunnies. the best treat is small amounts of fruit (no more than 1 tsp per 2 lbs body weight per day). store-bought banana chips are usually very bad for bunnies because they're fried/have oil... if you have a food dehydrator, though, you could go pretty nuts drying fruit for him!

there's really no such thing as "too much veggies" if they're the right veggies. no more than 1 tbsp non-leafy veggies per 2 lbs body weight per day... but a *minimum* of 1 cup (chopped/packed) leafy greens per 2 lbs body weight should be given daily.

with pellets, the issue is mostly carbs/protein, the fact that they usually contain sugar, they don't have the dental benefits that hay and veggies do and - most importantly - that they're very dense calorie-wise and bunnies are grazers - if they're grazing on mostly pellets, yes, they'll get chubby. the recommended amount is 1/4-1/2c pellets per 6 lbs body weight per day.

he should *always* have unlimited grass hay available (any horse-quality hay will work, but if you feed oat or wheat or something, you need to pull out the oats or w/e because the excess carbs are bad for bunnies).

this is a great litter box system that has a built-in hay rack - even if you don't end up using it, it might give you an idea.

I actually bought some shelves that hang over cabinet doors or w/e in the kitchen section of walmart and modified one of them with my dremel plus zip-tied coroplast to the back (corrugated plastic, cardboard could work too) and I hang it on the side of my bunnies' pen... it's hard to explain; I'll go take pics and edit this with links to them.

I've got a new website that I'm finishing up... it's mostly sugar glider stuff but I've got a bunny page so my girls won't feel left out, hehe - if you scroll down (just past the you-tube videos), there's a list of treats and toys my bunnies recommend and even a link to my tutorial for building an agility course (like an obstacle course for bunnies - tons of fun!) - http://www.hurricanesleucisticfriends.com/for-da-bunnies.html

if you have any more bunny questions or just want to chat/share stories and pics, I highly recommend http://rabbitsonline.net/ - it's an excellent community; very friendly, active and helpful!

edit: here's a pic of my hay rack - http://i1183.photobucket.com/albums/x465/mareimbri1/DSCF1436_zps6ec4862e.jpg (I've decided I like the wider openings better, I just haven't gone back and fixed the bottom). it's got hooks on the back, so it should be easy enough to hang it in a dog crate).

Which position should newborn baby boy or infant boy sleep?

myscreenna

on his stomach with his face sideways?
on his back with his face looking at ceiling?
on his back with his face looking at sides?
on his shoulder?

which position he sleeps matter?
why or why not?

How about when he is 1 year old?
2 years old?
3 years old?

How did your baby sleep?

Answer
It is very important that infants sleep on their back, with no extra pillows, blankets, toys, etc in the crib with them. Swaddle him or tuck a blanket around him to keep him warm, and have him sleep on his back. This is important until 1 year of age, as it has been shown to reduce the risk of Sudden Infant Death Syndrome by up to 50%. After that, go by what is most comfortable for your baby. But always think of safety- once your baby can roll over, he can roll off of a crib or changing table. Once he can stand, he could tip over a low crib rail. Here is a full list of tips from the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia:

Place your baby on his/her back on a firm, tight-fitting mattress in a crib that meets current safety standards.
Remove pillows, quilts, comforters, sheepskins, stuffed toys, and other soft products from the crib.
Consider using a sleeper as an alternative to blankets with no other covering.
If using a blanket, put your baby with his/her feet at the foot of the crib. Tuck a thin blanket around the crib mattress, only as far as the baby's chest.
Make sure your baby's head remains uncovered during sleep.
Do not place your baby on a waterbed, sofa, soft mattress, pillow, or other soft surface to sleep.

Infant Teething right?

Kelli - Mo

My little four-month old has two white lumps on his lower gums and his gums are slightly swollen. Obviously I believe he's getting in his first little teeth. He's been screaming, drooling, has a ever so slight fever, has been chewing on his hands (and everyone else's hands he comes in contact with), etc. This sounds like teething, right?

So I've tried frozen bananas in a mesh feeder, teething tablets, cold water, and teething toys. Nothing has really seemed to help much. Any other ideas to help relieve pain a little? And has anyone else has children get teeth this young?

Thanks in advance!
I'm allergic to tylenol (I know, sucks right?). So we're not allowed to give him acetaminophen until he's more than 1 year old - just in case he's allergic as well.

Answer
My son is 5 months old and just got his bottom tooth. He has been teething for the past two months tho. It could be months from now until your little one's tooth actually breaks through. The only difference I noticed when it was actually about to break through was diarhhea. You can try a cold, frozen washcloth or towel. When my son was in a lot of pain, mostly at night when lying down when he couldnt get comfortable, I would give him tylenol...not all the time...only when it got really bad, for his sake. but you just have to ride it out, keep trying everything and if nothing works tylenol is the last resort. The first tooth is always the worst!

old methods of easing teething pains for infants?

Q. there is an over the counter drug that used to be recommended for teething babies that would numb the mouth and gums. i can't remember teh name of it but it was recommended up until sometime in the 80s. ideas?

Answer
Any pressure on the gums will help. The wet cloth works well, as do teething toys. I used a big thick carrot that my daughter chewed on. It was thick enough that she couldn't break pieces off, and cold and smooth.

My own mother used paregoric, and didn't understand why I didn't use it. It's an opium derivative. I wouldn't use ora-gel or whiskey, either.

What To Expect At Emergency Custody Hearing?

Nathan

So I Have Joint Custody With My 6 Year Old Daughters Mother. Just Gained It Nov. 14, 2012. I Served My Daughters Mother With Emergency Custody Because My Daughter Told Me For The Second Time That Her Mother Is Smoking Weed In Front Of Her Again, (she can completely describe what weed looks like and how it is smoked) And ever since i was awarded Joint her mom isnt around anymore and that her Grandma is watching her while her mom goes to her boyfriends almost everyday. Her response was obviously deny deny. (judge denied my order because waiting on court date for more info, which is 1/30/13) I am working Full time, With a part time job and Working the navy reserves also. She is going to school part time. So her response was that i told my daughter to say those things and that if she said those i would by her toys. She also put a copy of her cannabis card with her response. Her Mother printed a small letter saying she is renting a room from her sister in law. The only brother she has is some guy that did time in jail or prison for raping little kids but im not sure that is the same person. My daughter told me 1/20/13 that her mom doesnt live with her, and only spends the night when her Grandma works late, and that her mom and grandma told her if she doesnt lie she wont see her mom anymore. Her Grandma Told ME "i pray for you to grow up" is that degrading? Also November 28th My girlfriends moms car was stolen. She has no idea who took it. My daughters mom Wrote me a text at 1 in the morning before any of us new it was stolen saying " a police officer called me saying that your girlfriends moms car was in an accident". Right then we called my gfs mom and she didnt know what we were talking about. i called non emergency and the operator told me that there is no way that a police officer would call her and give her any of that information. can that be used in court? i have a 2 inch binder full of emails texts timelines etc. Santa Clara County says any piece of information or evidence requires 3 copies 1 for me, the judge and the other parent. Do i need to make 3 copies of everything? Should i get statements from my girlfriends family of both the times my daughter told me about the weed situation? Anything Will help please? I cant afford a lawyer, i have a 1 bedroom studio apartment that i am paying for plus 2 infants that are also mine that live with me and my girlfriend that i also take care of. Another concern is that if shes not working then how is she able to prescribe herself with weed? Child Support? please please anyone help me.

Answer
This is way too involved to make a comment on the proceedings itself.

What I see is that you're concerned about smoking the weed and your ex is saying you fabricated the story and told your daughter what to say. That's called coaching the witness.

At the moment it appears that you have a stalemate. Her word against yours. You need hard evidence to support your claim in order to defeat her argument.

What I suggest you do is contact Children's Services immediately and complain that your daughter is being subjected to unhealthy living conditions. The idea is to have CS inspect your daughter's home so that evidence of the weed can be discovered, giving you formal evidence to present to the court.
