Good toys for baby's first Christmas?

My MIL asked us about what we wanted for our son for Christmas. It's a hard question right now because he's only 3 months old and not quite ready to play with toys yet. His wants and needs are still pretty simple right now, although he is enjoying his time in the swing more and spending more time looking at his mobile. He already has some rattles, teething rings, a few bath toys, and stuffed animals but not much else. Any parents have suggestions for good toys for a 3-12 month old? I figure we might as well ask for some slightly older toys as well, we can always store them in the closet until he's old enough to play with them.

By 12 months your baby will almost certainly be crawling, but may be walking and speaking their first word and signing perhaps another 5 (if you start teaching baby sign language at 7 months). So that covers a very wide toy range, from infant to toddler.

Perhaps a good way to go is to focus on crawler toys. Things used before the toddler stage, but that may encourage walking.

7 month old and bath?

My son wont sit still.... hes already crawling an pulling himself up... he is too big for the infant bath and I have one of those bath seats, but dont care for it, as it seems to scratch his legs. He also doesnt like the seat because he cant splash me. I have tried giving him toys and singing songs and whatnot, but he just wants to crawl around the bathtub. I always have one hand on him and the water isnt deep or anything. But he wont sit still... Anyone else been through this... It just makes me nervous.... Anyone have any advice? Thanks bunches and Merry Christmas!
He tends to need at least one bath per day, since he only wants to feed himself. I never thought of taking a bath with him though. Thanks!

Try to take a bath with him. He might enjoy having Mommy right there and could decide to sit, though he might decide to sit on you! If he's not too dirty, you could also try just a sponge bath, and just put him in a bath if he needs his hair washed or he's just eaten a plate of spaghetti and really needs a scrub!

What is the bst way to clean infants toys after they have been sick?

My baby has RSV and I need to disinfect his toys soon. I know I can throw the stuffed animals in pillow case and wash them but what about all the other stuff?

Put some bleach in a bath tub full of water and dunk them in. The ones with batteries, just give them a wipe down. I understand completely why you want to get those germs out! My nephew had RSV and did breathing treatments and took steroids to get better. I remember him being sick for weeks. Poor thing! I hope your baby gets better soon. You should think about an air purifier like the ones Rainbow has. Those are great.

Out of all the 475945793 toys Landyn HAS to have in the bathtub with him he loves a scooper cup that looks like a lobster. He likes to drink his warm yucky dirty bathwater from it...YUCK! He also likes his own "razor" (it's plastic of course!) and his shaving foam :)

Help!! Which baby bath do I keep and which do I return?

I just had a baby shower and I received two baby baths. Three actually (one is a folding one used in the sink.) AND and a bath seat. I don't want to bathe him in my bath tub.

Here is a description of each.
1. Rather large infant-toddler bath. Comes with mesh sling for new borns, and soap dish/playfull wheel.
2. Medium /small sized infant-toddler bath. Compacted fold.
3. Bath seat. Comes with temperature control and bath toy. Useful until baby can pull himself to standing position.
4. Foldable infant bath. Useful up to 6 months.

I LOVED the big infant/toddler bath, because as your child grows you can change how much water you use, and how the tub is used. personally, my husband and I found it preferable to put the baby tub in the adult tub, because our kitchen was just too small to deal with. We hated the mesh, instead, I opened the drain on the tub, and used a towel as a pad for the first few weeks. I also had a handheld showerhead, so I was able to keep everything simple and comfortable.When she was able to sit up I started leaving a little water in for her to play with, and as she aged, we were able to move her to the other side and give her some room. Since she used it in the tub, we never had to worry about serious transitions,even from baby tub to grownup tub was easy, because she was used to being there anyways.

You are certainly right- you can't leave a 4 month old alone! Never leave babies unattended. They'll fall over when you think they won't/can't, etc.! You can talk to them, play with age-appropriate toys with them, sing/lullabys, bath time is enjoyable for them, even reading to them at that young age is recommeneded and my daughter seemed to enjoy it! You can go for walks in the stroller if the weather is nice enough, or just bundle baby up well if it's a bit cold. Also babies like activity centers, jumpers, exersaucers at this age. Baby will be rolling around that age and soon enough, starting to sit up and crawl which is a fun, fun time.

My 16-month old still uses the infant-toddler bath, and I like it because it contains him a little better, it's cleaner, and doesn't use as much water. He seems like he's getting a little cramped though, so I'm just wondering at what age others transfer to the big tub for baths.

This is a preference thing much more than anything else. As soon as you or he is ready, go for it! And at 16 months he can sit up, and should be walking so no fear of him sliding into the water readily. If he and you are ready switch, and if you're worried that he may not like it, let him splash more with the bubbles, maybe try a new boat toy. Something new that he can associate with switching to the bigger bath, to make it more fun and an easier switch.
Myself, I never used a baby bath, just the bath tub itself, I started out climbing in with my daughter and holding her while i bathed her and let her kick and splash and it became easier when she could sit up and play more. Then at a year we introduced the shower-head for more fun! And it's worked great, my daughter takes both baths and showers since the age of 3, now at 5 she cleans better than my husband some days :)
{Try the tub-stickers, the ones you put on the bottom of the shower to give more grib when you stand. They even come in cute fishy designs, so slipping is less of a worry as well. They should give you more confidence in letting him sit up and play in the big tub.}

Is is normal for a baby to hate baths?

My daughter is 3 months old and she screams every time I put her in the tub. I've tried bath toys, a toy that blows bubbles, bubble baths, putting her in the tub with me, making the water warmer and cooler and nothing seems to help. I've even tried 3 different infant tubs. It's gotten to the point that I dread giving her a bath and I don't know what to do. Any advise? Will she grow out of it and if so, when?

Being in water is a very different experience. Just give her a sponge bath for now, that usually does the trick unless she's very dirty. Some babies and older kids, just don't like the water.

I have the Fischer Price aquarium bath tub for my son. He is now 8 months old and this tub transforms to fit a baby anywher from newborn to toddler. Once they are able to sit on there own you can just fill it up and sit them in there without the netting. When they are little you keep the net up and then you can have the net half on half off when they are a little older and then eventually they can just sit in there on their own. I like it bc it comes with toys, one is even attached to the tub so its always their for them to play with. Its small enough to fit in the tub or you can fill it and bathe them anywhere. It's convenient and not that expensive I believe we purchased ours at Target for about $30. Good luck!

Having a baby can cost a lot, but I think it's just because people want to buy the absolute newest car seat crib stroller etc, not to mention the newest toys cute clothes, little baby socks and shoes etc.

I would just go get everything at a second hard store or better yet hand me downs from the many people I know who have had babies in the last year.

Also the big question. Cloth diapers or pampers? Pampers are certainly more convenient, but they cost money AND theyre terrible for the environment.

I'm a stay at home Mom with an infant and a 2.25 year old. She has plenty of toys but gets bored and acts out. We usually read books and play with playdough. She likes to watch Nick Jr shows, but I don't want her watching TV all day. What are some fun, fairly easy, and fairly cheap (or free!) activities I can do with her to help her have fun during the day?

have her "help" with laundry

draw with sidewalk chalk and blow bubbles

play shape searchers and look for shapes around the house

This is going to be my daughters first christmas too and I'm totally stumped. My parents go over board so forgive me if this is beyond what you were hoping to do. Some cute outfits, bath toys, teething rings, can of formula if she uses it, jar baby food as she will be eating it soon or maybe just baby cereal. A teddy bear? Picture of her family for her nursery?? These are things i'm thinking of. And since she really has no idea what is going on it doesnt hurt to throw in things she needs like diapers. She wont care that its not "cool" Merry christmas and good luck

Want to talk to all you moms and dads out there with infants around six weeks old?

Q. I have a baby boy who is five and and half weeks old. All my friends have older kids and seem to have forgotten what it is like to have a baby. I am a first time mother and just want to talk to some folks with babies about the same age. Tell me about your baby. How do they sleep, eat, what is their schedule like if they have one... Just curious Maybe it will give me some new ideas.

A. Hello. Congrats, and welcome to the "Mommy club!" I have a beautiful baby boy, named Gabriel, who is about 14 weeks old.
Gabe didn't start really developing a schedule until around about last month. I'm a single mom, so I take him to daycare. We start our day at about 6-6:15a.m. I get myself ready, and then he wakes up to eat. I feed him a bottle, get him burped and dressed, I load the car, then we go to daycare. Thankfully for me, he doesn't sleep much at daycare, so he's tired when I pick him up, but in a good mood. He eats about 6 oz (with a teaspoon of cereal) every 4-5 hours. He's a very curious child already, and doesn't like to be left alone. He constantly craves attention, but is not fussy at all. He just seems to be really curious about the world around him, which I just love.
So, when I pick him up, I either take him home where we spend an hour playing, or we go to Grandma and Grandpa's house, where we play. We do a combination of "bouncy play" or belly time, or toy time, or all three. I talk and sing to him.
After that, at about 6:30p.m.-7p.m. I give him a bath, change him, spend another few minutes holding him, then I feed him. Once he's done with the bottle, I burp him, and put him down immediately in the crib. It usually doesn't take him long to fall asleep. He sleeps an average of about 8-10 hours a night, and we start our day over again.

I'm blessed b/c he's such a good, happy baby.... it took a while to establish the routine, and daycare's really good about keeping one up, and b/c he's so stimulated during the day, and interacting with so many kids and adults, he's exhausted by the time I get him, so he sleeps throught the night.
On the weekends, we just do whatever. I let up on the schedule during the day, but he still goes to bed no later than 7:30pm.-8p.m.
